I have been stalking this site for a while now trying to learn as much as possible. I have a bit of an obsession with these boats and am now purchasing my first one. Need unbiased opinions on my purchase. 1993 formula 271 sr1 with 502 mag (carb) approximate hours is 85 on new motor, new livorsi guages. price 20,000 I have seen it in person and is in great shape for a 93. Other option is a 99 baja 272, 502 mpi, approximate hours is 300, have not seen but have been told by the dealer that there are 2 small tears in the sun pad, and also has a soft spot in the floor behind one of the bolsters. Price 22,500. If it were you which one would you take and why. Going to make the purchase by the weekend so any input would be greatly appreciated. Any upside that one has that the other does not or vise versa.

Formula is pretty close to me and Baja is not (about 12 hours away)

Soft spot alone would scare me away.

I'd take the forumla. Better built boat and has carbed 502, which is easy to work on..........huge plus for a first boat, but I would want to see the receipt for the "new" 502.

Never been on either boat. Really glad people are buying boats again.

I'd go with the Formula as well.

A friend had the 27 Baja with the 502 and said it was scary sometimes. Go for the Formula....

...but get it surveyed!

No matter the boat, anytime there is a soft spot on a horizonal it generally means a pricey repair. Also usually means it is much more extensive than the 10" pizza pan size it seems to be on the cockpit deck!

Actually it doees matter. Go for the Formula. They are made in Decatur, Indiana

nothing against the baja,but id go with the formula,its a better all around boat imo,and as allready mentioned,the 502 carbed motor is a nice power package,and less complicated to work on,good luck on whatever boat you go with.

Thank for the replies.. Looks like the formula is the better boat at this point. I am sure I will be on here asking a bunch of novice questions in the near future.
