Box Anchor! Make sure and get the Large. You'll never have to think about an anchor again.

My boat came with a box anchor. As for holding, nothing is better, but I absolutely HATE to throw out the damn thing! It's heavy as hell, and no matter how much you try to wash it off, it WILL bring up a truckload of muck on a muddy bottom. I imagine it would be great on a sandy bottom though. I affectionately refer to it as the "Volkswagen", since it weighs about as much as one!

Not sure how you wash it off, but this is what I do: Bring it out of the water, roughly 3 or 4 feet, and drop it. Repeat 3 or 4 times and it's clean. The "drop" really knocks the mud off.

They all hold mud, even a Fortress type.

1) I bring my anchor up from the swim platform. It's 100x easier than doing it at the bow.

2) Pull it up to just below the water's surface, reach down, and spin it 180* so the tines point down. Dunk it up and down a couple times and the crud falls right off.

I'm not a big guy, and I don't have any problem hauling it up even with as much as 50+ feet of rode out.

Yeah, I do walk it around to the stern, but it still takes alot of dunks to get all the mud off. Like I said though, that thing will hold my boat and several others in a good breeze!

SNAPMORGAN is dead on,I was one of those trying to anchor at the shootout and could not get a hold and saw many rafted up with a box anchor holding the fleet.They seem to be the best for a soft bottom.

I've been using my trusty FX-7 Fortress with 6' of chain for many years now. With the exception of some really hard clay it has always held tight. I recently purchased a small (20 lb.) box anchor to use as a stern anchor and to have a backup. I'm going to just use it this weekend to see how it compares to the Fortress. I mostly anchor in a mud/clay bottom lake in about 10 feet of water.

Box is nice, I have both the sm and lg. You will need the lg for a 29'.
It will not lock down like a danforth but will not roll in wind change like a danforth.

A Fortress probably would not have bent like the cheaper straight steel shank did. If it had, call Fortress and a new shank is on the way no charge.
One reminder with anchor retrieval, pull directly over it, tie off and patiently motor. (this can take 15min or more if set tight)
