Nextel????

To my g/f's amazment, my AT&T phone servived the weekend. For everyone in my immediate area's sake it is time to change my phone. No one should have to be subject to that kind of ranting.
Question,
Who is using Nextels and how is the service, both radio and cell?
Im in the northern NJ area, I boat mostly from Kingston to Atlantic City.
How about Florida, Mass, New Hampshire.

THRILLSEEKER 07-08-2002 05:27 PM

Tantrum~ Todd & I have Nextels...I really like them...especially, the 2-way radio part!! We have nights & wknds. free & all incoming calls are free. He has a set-amt. of min. on his and I have a set amt. of minutes on mine. All in all-I think Nextel's Great!!

Sydwayz 07-08-2002 05:33 PM

NO-TEL!

No telling if it is going to work or not. We would have four of us in the same car at my last job, all of us on separate phone calls, and the three others had great signal, and I had awful, or someone else had awful signal, and these were all new phones. The 2-way feature is currently spreading across regions, and soon is said to be across the states, but who knows. Email, pager, digital and analog cell, and 2-way makes for a very versatile piece of equipment, HOWEVER, we could not depend on them, as all those features in one little tiny black box, really stresses the little black box out.

BryanTuvell 07-08-2002 05:38 PM

AWESOME!!! We have two, been with them for 5 years.
NO HIDDEN CHARGES for in and out calls, your quote is your bill!
They round to the second....

There is an occasional no service Zone in an area of very small population, but not often.
I recommend them for sure!

My folks live in Chillicothe Ohio, it works there and most areas in Ohio that we travel (South East).

It is one of the best ideas ever, and one of the worse excecutions of an idea ever. If they would stop spending money advertising their service, and more money upgrading their service it might be all right. I have never seen a company with such poor customer service. They are now an institution not a corporation. They do not care whether you come, stay, lay or pray once you sign a contract. If I was not in constuction I would not have that service for a minute. It was better years ago when we had it, now so many have it their capacity is full. THose towers can only handle so many signals at a time, and that is why the service is hit or miss. During peak times you get dropped, cant get through ect. "Keep track of this and we will credit you", why dont you send a rep in my car full time so he can do the job, I get paid to sell not track your poor service, And chase you around for 4 f#$ckin' months for my credits, warraty claims, and wrong charges. Take it from someone who uses these phones non-stop, propably 2000 2-way a month and 2-3k on the phone. The service is terrible. Do you want to know what I really think. I tell them that if my company performed as they do, we would not need these f@#ckin' phones because no one would be doing business with us!! Midnight:mad:

Nextel

I am outside of NYC and my service is fine... I have used the direct connect from the top of CT all the way to Alantic City.

The first month or so is horriable with the service department and the billing department of Nextel but after that all has been fine.

Like any Cell phone it depends on were you are at. Some will have great luck with them and others will hate it. Make sure to test it out yourself and get them to allow you to have a 30 day out if the service is not to your liking. Most companies will give you that. Good luck.

I have traveled all ove rthe country with mine...the coverage area is a good as any other carrier I have used ......they do seem to be getting overloaded though...my comp/comminication geek friend swears by verizon for total coverage area countrywide...I dunno..the 2 way feature works alright just depends on your needs...

Pure Energy 07-08-2002 07:36 PM

Hey Chris,

If you don't need it for work, don't bother. Our area, Bergen and Passaic, gets lousey service. I can't think of one town that does not have dead areas. I like it because I can talk to my guys instantly, if we have a signal, and if I alert them they have to answer. Also you don't have to hold it to your ear. It is very frustrating when you have to talk to someone and you can't. Plus the G/F will want one and that is bad news:D

The boat is going to my truck mechanic on Thurs. I feel much better having him work on it. So we will be on the river this weekend. Will you be around or at the shore?

MIdnightRider 07-08-2002 08:20 PM

Chris, We use Nextel, They are the worst!! You sound like your under water half the time, And you know the add that says Do you Hear Me Now! Thats is definetly Nextel. There are areas they don't work. Nextel says they are putting up more recievers. Ya sure for the last 4 years we heard that and our company still uses 2500 of them! The telephone is not much better, my wifes Verizon is 10 times better.

MACDAD260 07-08-2002 10:24 PM

I have had great service with mine and I am in the same area as Midnightrider. I can't explain that. I have the unlimited 2-way, free nationwide long distance and free incoming calls with 400 minutes outgoing each month and insurance against loss or damage. Average bill is about $86. There are some areas in Michigan where it will not work but, in any populated area it seems to work fine. Last winter my wife and I went to a business conference in Charlotte, SC. She has a Verizon phone. Since I have free LD, anytime we got separated in the exhibit area or hotel I would just call her to find out where she was and it connected everytime. The free LD is great if you make frequent out of state calls. It will save you money that way. Also, if you are in business and have customers that need to call you occasionally, the 2-way is a great feature for them if they also have a Nextel as many of my clients do. I would check the coverage map in your area and see if it suits your needs. Otherwise get the brand that gives you the best coverage in the area you travel. I don't think any one service will work everywhere all the time.

packinair 07-08-2002 11:17 PM

nextell rocks

Playn 07-08-2002 11:49 PM

Didn't work well for us...couldn't get rid of them fast enough

enticer 07-09-2002 03:58 AM

Nextel......SUCKS.....everywhere

BTJ88 07-09-2002 08:53 AM

I'll second what midnight said. I switched to Verizon last year. I can go almost anywhere and still have signal. I do miss the 2-way a little. But, not much because I could never use the F^%$^%$king thing because the system was busy or the user was unavailable or some othe bs reason. This was my main reason for having nextel (because their phone service sucks) so I dropped them like a bad habit. And like midnight said - they couldn't care less about my complaints and departure.

ActiveFun 07-09-2002 09:41 AM

Hey Chris,
The cell portion doesn't work so well here in NYC, but it works great in Fla.
