Second crappy boating Season
Well guys here I sit on my keester on a saturday night telling you all that this is the second crappy boating season in a row up here on Lake Erie....... And whats even worse is the fact that it does not look any better for whats left of the rest of the season !!!!!
Last year was so bad that I should have built an Arc because the rain and wind was so bad..Now for this season its been so God Awful hot that you can't go out in the day time without getting cooked to death-----------------No bimini top on the boat. I look down the canal and see nothing moving ,not even the fishing boats... been like that all summer. Never mind the gas!!!!!!!!! Jim:poopoo::poopoo::poopoo: |
You just have to play the hand you're dealt. We have had a hot summer here as well (14 or 15 straight days over 100), but it didn't slow us down. We've had a great summer.
|
My cottage is in about a million pieces, my boat hasn't been in the water YET this year, and I just realized its only a couple weeks til Labour Day.
I feel your pain!!! LOL |
Thank God for what You have. Enjoy Your life. It sounds like Your mad because its to hot before it gets cold???? Really? Thats why I have a boat. Artie

We broke the record last year with 90 days over 100deg, and lake was 50ft low,, didnt stop me from going out almost every weekend..

I have to say that I'm a little puzzled too. This has been the BEST boating season ever for me. I've documented all of my outings and there have been 29 including 3 times in March when we set new record highs in the 80s. That is the first time I've ever been on the Great Lakes in March. April got back to normal but after that it's been nothing but hot, hot, hot!! To me that means the only place I want to be is on the water keeping cool. Also the only thing I've broken is a battery hold-down. I'm looking forward to an overnighter at Put-in-Bay this Wed & Thur for the "Bartender Olympics". You do carry sunblock don't you?
|
I usually choose not to take the boat out when it is 100*. I have a nice pool at home so I just stay home.
Today is going to be nice here, mid 80's, low humidity. I have to get off the computer and get the boat ready! |
This is my first year with a full time bimini top and I love it, nothing better than being out on the boat without getting fried
|
We boat on lake erie out of east harbor. This summer has been awesome with warm/hot weather, warm water and a lot of days that the wind has not been blowing to harc to go boating. The only thing bad has been trying to get vacation enough to go to the lake more. They keep telling me no, LOL.

Been out almost every weekend (Jobbie Nooner, Boat4Vets, Raft Off) and some weeknights (multiple fireworks displays last month), been to Lexington on Lake Huron (we're in Lake St Clair) going to the Cove in Ontario this Friday ... We used a Sunbrella on our Formula 311 to get out of the sun. Worked great. |
Way to hot this year. Been out a couple times but gas at 4 bucks a gallon and 100* at 7pm at night is not a great combo in my eyes. Come on Fall!
|
Crappy boating season?????? I am not that far away from you and it has been great!

I`ve been out almost every weekend but 2 (installing ac this weekend) hot summer is a bad thing!? Thats what I dream about at night!
Lake Michigan water is almost 80*.. I LOVE IT! If you didn`t enjoy this summer its time to get out of boating brother |
Got my boat back together late August last year. This year got it ready in May. Only been out 4 time this year so far due to work, new engine only has 22 hours on it. I don't mind the heat, the water at the sand bar was warm early this year. The next few weeks and September will be slow at work so I'm planning on going out every weekend!

I've heard that the midwest and lower Great lakes areas have experienced a Texas summer this year. I must have a top because I work outdoors every day in this skin baking sun and don't want it when I'm off and enjoying myself. The heat ain't so bad when your wet and in the shade. I've got a full size bimini top that'll fit a 9'3" beam I'd sell if your interested. It's in good shape but missing a few of the knick knack fasteners at the rear's bottom. I used to just tie them to the receiver with baling wire and cinch them with linesman pliers and cut the baling wire when I folded it down or removed it.

I keep the chillers on my swimming pool at 85 but would be down around 80 to 82 if I could afford the electricity. In last summers heat wave and drought I was forking 11 to 1300 monthly for electricity most of which is my home AC and the pool chillers. Thankfully we've been blessed with cold beer and with a tad of rock salt in the cooler it gets it a little bit colder and the ice doesn't melt as fast. I hope all of y'all are enjoying your summers with your friends and families. See ya, Kelly |
I been boating every weekend, when it gets hot we go to the sandbar or north side of KI all day and swim, hit the bars at night... I will however have AC next year for those few days that you cant sleep due to humidity... and the dogs would like it too....
I think we have had a great summer, hot and dry.. I had to cover boat once this year... love that!! |
Just spent the day from 8am to dark on Saturday in Havasu running from the dam to Needles and the temp was about 120.This is normal for us and we just deal with it but shade is a must with lots of water and a few beers inbetween,we run hard for a couple of hours and then put up the govenor(shade) and cruise for the rest of the day and then drop it before sundown and run hard again. We do get on the water early because if you step out of the truck at 11am and the ramp is 125degrees you pass out,it just takes a bit to acclamate to it.Tons of boats out there and many with no shade in the sun all day,but that is usually the young crowd, used to do that but need shade now.

From my count I have only lost 3 weekend boating DAYS this season to rain. Living in upsate Ny I can remember summers that never really came. Snow in the Adirondacks one Memorial day weekend 10 years ago. A 65 degree 50 mph wind 4th of July in 2009 with record rain that summer. One year we had countless 90 degree mondays and tuesdays, but rainy cool weekends.
I think this year and last have been GREAT! Its summers like these that people WISH they had boats and pools. If I had two gripes from this year it would be 1. low water levels 2. engines don;t make as much power at 100 degrees high humidity. This summer has been a 9.5/10 for me :) There is one place in this country that you can count on mid 70's weather consistantly, that is the west coast. Keep in mind you are lucky enough to live in an area that houses 75% of the world's fresh water lakes :) |
