Default Sea Ray 540 Sundancer - Long Island

Have a buddy looking at a 2000 Sea Ray 540 Sundancer DA at Empire Point Marina on Long Island.

Anyone from the area familiar with this boat or owner? Or really close to take a look at it. My buddy is in Oklahoma and has surveys, sea trials, etc lined up but doesn't want to waste his time and money on a survey and a trip up there if its a piece of junk or in poor condition.

Boat is currently listed through a broker in Stuart FL, Matt Lavin of Yacht Sales Consultants. Reputable?

Thanks for any help. Jim

That CAT engine model has known issues. Make sure he checks it out.

Neighbor just dropped 25k into one engine rebuild last season.

I have one just like it with about 650 hours and I love it! We spend a lot of time on the boat and couldn't be happier. The only thing is keep the fuel filters and all clean. Mine had algae in the fuel tank and was a PITA to get cleaned up. Also check and see if the valvetrain has been adjusted recently. My boat has c12's which replaced the 3196's that were originally in the boat. Cat did the replacement under warranty about 2003-2004 and the c12s are flawless! I think it was the after coolers that kept having problems with the 3196... might check them closely!
