Thread Highjack,

Thinking about doing this run next year with my boat, 29 Formula. Only doing it if I repower and can run 80. Most people who know me realize I am not all there:evilb: but am I really crazy for even thinking about doing this run with a 29 ft boat. I am not afraid to run in rough water, do it all the time. But am concerned about keeping up as I have never run in that area. The last leg is fine once we are out in the ocean I can find Key West. Would do the Tue departure and probably not stay the whole week.

Thanks for opinions.

I have been to Key West a few times in a 32 Sunsation w/6.2s....yeah most v bottoms cruise where the 32 runs wfo but it was fine!

Outside run to KW can be rough in Nov, lots of big air shots over the years but it is only 30 miles from Sunshine Key.

Your 29 will be fine size wise as long as it doesn't get too rough on the outside. However, if your at 80 WOT, you'll have a hard time keeping up. Bring a good GPS.

Wed- Mon. The usual suspects.

Sydwayz 10-07-2012 08:44 PM

Stu is purposely accommodating smaller and slower boats (singles too), across some of his venues. I think he could do it here as well. You can run the inside with anything as long as it is not storming. We had a 25AT with 4 people, 2 weeks worth of luggage, and enough beer to float that entire boat in a pool. They were fine all the way down and back, and ran in the middle of the second pack around 70ish. And we ran 50/50 in and out that trip down.

We always launch in Pompano. Guaranteed the roughest part of the trip is Govt Cut to the bridge inside of Lighthouse Point.

Thanks for the comments, would really like to do this run in my boat. Did it a few years ago as a passenger.

DirtyMoney 10-07-2012 11:13 PM

We will be down Wed-Mon

Xtremeracing 10-07-2012 11:37 PM

If anyone is in the pits during the week stop by the JD Byrider camp for a T-shirt...

Another suggestion might be for Stu is, maybe have some sort of start or group consisting of CC's. ( under 75MPH ). This might also include smaller boats or older boats where a cruise speed of 60 MPH is comfortable. Most of even the high end CC's with triples only top out at 70 MPH. This would give a group of boaters a opportunity to do the run without feeling over powered by the big boys.

s022mag 10-08-2012 01:56 PM

Is there a website that shows when everything starts and what routes you can take. I'm in no means ready for a run like that but wouldn't mind knowing what would be needed for future reference.

Sydwayz 10-08-2012 02:00 PM

www.flpowerboat.com

Start at Miami Sea Isle Marina.
Lunch at Gilberts in Key Largo.
End at Key West Bight.

mcoutlaw 10-08-2012 03:45 PM

Is anyone else running down Wed. that is not part of the FPB club?

Zero Patience 10-08-2012 03:59 PM

Worst part is leaving KW harbor with a hangover on Sunday morning at 7 am, winds kicking up 3-5's outside the harbor and knowing you are 150+ miles from the trailer at Haulover!

For others they have a longer road from the top of the keys to home:

Map # City, State Miles Kilometers Driving Time
1 Miami, FL 50 80 1 hour
2 Ft. Myers, FL 200 320 4 hours
3 Tampa, FL 300 480 6 hours
4 Orlando, FL 280 450 6 hours
5 Gainesville, FL 380 610 8 hours
6 Tallahassee, FL 530 850 10 hours
7 Jacksonville, FL 490 780 10 hours
8 Savannah, GA 530 850 11 hours
9 Macon, GA 630 1,010 13 hours
10 Charleston, SC 630 1,010 13 hours
11 Atlanta, GA 700 1,120 14 hours
12 Pensacola, FL 720 1,150 14 hours
13 Montgomery, AL 740 1,200 15 hours
14 Birmingham, AL 860 1,370 17 hours
15 Charlotte, NC 884 1,400 18 hours
16 New Orleans, LA 910 1,500 18 hours
17 Louisville, KY 1,140 1,824 23 hours

Jupiter Sunsation 10-08-2012 04:22 PM

This was easily one of the best KWPR shots:

http://www.flpowerboat.com/gallery/d...bum=32&pos=404

Shot was taken on the outside from Sunshine Key heading to KW. This is early afternoon, 2-3 pm and being winter the seas can get rough. Lots of air shots from that gallery.

That's what transporters are for. There's no way I could run a boat back after five days of KW.
