Memphis is trash stay away from it hasn't been made in the USA for many years listen to the alpine 7 inch coaxials they sound great i sell them like hot cakes type s are good type r handle more power and have more mid-bass. I own a stereo shop in socal was a busy boat season this year we did over 30. Most with alpine speakers haven't had one come back yet...

Joe - how do you find the Alpine Marine series compare to the Rockford Fosgate Marine speakers?

Alpines sound every bit as good, and personally better than the JL's and cost half. Fosgates also sound very good. But getting good sound is also very dependant on the setup. You can have an inexpensive speaker sound very good in the right setup. You can have a very expensive speaker sound like crap in the wrong setup.

Don't fall for the JL is the end all hype. Many companies make good sounding speakers. Having a good HU and amp to drive them, and putting them in the proper space makes all the difference.

Fosgate m282 have them in two boats. Absolutely fantastic. Handle big power. Great all around sound and built with nice covers and hardware.

I have 6 DC Gold 7's and 2 DCG 6x9's in the Classic Series. They sound great and they last. The DCG Reference series are supposed to be even better.
The DC Gold 7's are the exact same size cut out as the JL 7.7's.

I have heard that the DCG 9.5's do not have quite as good of sound quality because the larger size makes them slower to react. I have no experience with them though.
