OSO cheese

Obviously if you are after a cheap and easy interest/sport offshore boats are not a great choice...I was just wondering being in the more junior bracket of the forum (dare I say) and still feeling a bit in the dark about the future what you guys all do to keep your go fasts going fast and (girlies) looking good? No problem if you dont want to disclose this but would really like to hear.
thankyou!

I wanted to start a pole but couldnt see how to . moderator feel free to intercept//

GTOKILLER 10-17-2012 07:41 AM

I'm sure I'm on the low end of this scale compared to a lot of the OSO members judging by some of the SUPER nice boats here.

I own & operate a good size local Tree Removal Service. Employ 4 full time employees.

As so for the girlies they will come with big, loud, fast:boat: haha

ridefast77 10-17-2012 08:05 AM

mptrimshop 10-17-2012 08:14 AM

Crude Intentions 10-17-2012 08:20 AM

I'm a captain on a supply boat. Once I get my license upgrade I will be in sound enough position to comfortably purchase my 38 fountain lightning. Currently have a 272 sr1 and love it. My job supports my lifestyle nicely.

Its funny you say that. One of the guys in my group that has a pretty good stable of go fasts including several tripe digit jet drag boats as well as a 130+ mpH 33 Eliminator we actually call a drug dealer. He owns a tobacco and liquor store lol.

sommerfliesby 10-17-2012 09:41 AM

I own a small business. We manufacture superabrasive grinding tools. I currently have two boats, but would like to just have one...its more "affordable!"

bobkatz 10-17-2012 10:05 AM

a 130+ mpg 33 Eliminator
. Wow that things is set up right to get that kind of MPG.... LOL!
I can't afford anything nice without doing most of the work myself. If you can't do the work yourself or have the facility to do the work yourself the cost of owning a "useless go-fast boat" will be very high. So even if you can afford the monthly payment, don't forget about the maintenance or your sweet ride will be sitting.

Dinks :)

Not sure my boats fit your definition

seafordguy 10-17-2012 11:45 AM

What is always interesting about these threads is how many people own their own business. No coincidence that hard work pays off.

I could not agree more. Every time I read these threads, it emphasizes the benefits of working hard and being your own boss. Not too many people out there can work for someone else, and afford some of the boats on here.

Nice huh!? Mine works at GM, builds Cadillacs.

POWERPLAY J 10-17-2012 03:43 PM

Head painter @ a shop that specializes in high end and exotic cars. Over the years I've done trailers, boats, motorhomes and a few planes. Sh!t, I'd paint garbage cans if it pays well LOL.

On the boat I do about 90% of the work myself and trade work with friends for anything I can't do. Fortunately I have a core group of friends with great knowledge in the marine industry.

I only date hot chicks with money.

100k yr = nice house, nice truck and a kick ass boat if your smart with $$$

People call me "LUCKY" the harder I work the luckier I get!

brian41 10-17-2012 04:08 PM

I work on offshore boats 7 days a week up to 15 hours a day....have 3 boats with no time to work on them or use them.....good thing is I don't have a boat payment just a boat problem.

snapmorgan 10-17-2012 06:06 PM

I am not even close to most of the players on here, but I also own my own business. THAT I BUILT!!! It also helps that my wife makes enough money to cover all of the household bills and keeps us in medical insurance. She builds Toyotas.

I use to do that. Gave it up for boating. Now if I wan't to I will help You. Never work in Your play ground. Just saying. Artie

f_inscreenname 10-18-2012 12:31 AM

My job has very little to do with my boats. I find classic junk and make it into something. More sweat-equity then anything.

Full Force 10-18-2012 05:19 AM

I didnt pay a fortune for my boat and shes old classic to me, but to keep gas in it and run it+ weekend overnighting expenses is what cost me the money, I overnight EVERY weekend from Friday-Sunday and it adds up....

I am a Cabling tech, I work for someone and love my job, Fiber optics/cameras/data and everything inbetween..

I also do lots of working on Mustangs as I have a Car addiction also... gave up 4 wheelin years ago as I didnt use my CJ enough to justify it anymore, down to 2 major hobbys... LOL

Wildman_grafix 10-18-2012 05:52 AM

Wife is a nurse, I am a engineer. But we live in a expensive state that doesn't pay chit, getting out of boating as soon as I can.

Oh yea, I must not work hard, on the way to work and only have 52 hours in the first 3 days,,,,,,,,,,, but don't own the company. Lol

flysfloatsor 10-18-2012 08:14 AM

Im kicking around getting out of boating too!!

Wife is an MD.
Im a mid-level Exec at a big bank.
Early 30's - no kids yet
Still cant justify the expense, and I dont even have a big boat.

Surprising number of folks in Auto manufacturing participating in a hobby that takes a fair amount of expendable income. I think that says alot about the American manufacturing model...

As in - you dont see alot of chinese factory workers roaring down the in Mekong river in 25-50' powerboats.

BUY AMERICAN, DAMM!T - Our factory workers need new 525EFI's.

Put me down for a new Escalade EXT. I have 53K miles on mine but now that 2013 is the last year for it, I need to update. It's the perfect vehicle for me.

Back on track - I'm the Director of Operations for a company in the composites industry.

AndyinTN 10-18-2012 01:09 PM

I also own a business that I built with nothing but red tape and grief from the government!!

Wife is very well employed running a healthcare agency.

Interceptor 10-18-2012 01:35 PM

Retired defense contractor, any questions. Wife is a retired teacher/consultant.

Tom A. 10-18-2012 02:07 PM

Heavy highway construction. 3rd generation in the family business. I am a project manager, partial owner, and on the board of directors.

You have to work hard to have the toys and be willing to risk it all. If the company fails, there is no pension or safety net. We have had some great years and done well. Then there are some like this year where we are dam near break even.

I am 40, married with no kids (yet). My wife got her Masters in Social Work 3 years ago and due to this crazy market she works with her father as a financial planner and is studying to get her license.

Now I REALLY have to hide the boating expenses!!!!!!

Brad 10-18-2012 02:22 PM

I have been in the Insurance Software business for almost 30 years, it pays well. I have blown a ton of money over the years on performance boats and the whole lifestyle. As I'm now in my 50's I have cut back on my expenses and spending. Sold the lake house and got a great deal on a small condo, putting twin daughters through college for the next 4 years. When they get out I'm either going to move to Singer Island or the North Georgia mountains. Sorry probably a lot more than you wanted to know:party-smiley-004:

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the
intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body,

but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming -- WOW-- What a Ride!"

We live modestly work hard and make decsion for the long term.

Turning 50 this year kids are grown it's time to play.

BBCLiberator 10-18-2012 06:29 PM

Truck Vehicle Dynamics Engineer for one of the "Big-3" (your truck arguments almost always crack me up on this site, but I sit on the outside and laugh). Wife is an ICU Nursing Manager and I have the ****tiest "sorta fast" boat here. I have a cheap boat since boats are completely retarded, and I can't live without one :)

Fun begins in 7 years, kids college (little guys now) will be paid for and the house will be payed off. I'll be 40, score.
