41 Sabers are some of the baddest boats out there... I see Clifford is in the classifieds, all I have to say is 'wow'. Definitely a great boat

I have a Scarab III and it only has a 23 ° hull but yet rides amazing in rough if the dead rise is so important than what makes it such a great wave crusher? Its massive weight? I'm not saying it is near a cig in ride and its not fast at all mid 50s. But just curious cause on paper it doesn't look all that appealing.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Sutphens. They're the only boat on the market (that I know of) with a 26 degree V and are superb rough water boats.

To the "bonded" versus "glassed" deck debate: When I was a kid we had a one-year-old 272 Formula, followed by a two-year-old Sonic 33 SE. After one year of running the Formula, the cabin was coming to pieces, the deck was ripping off in spots (this after re-tightening the screws) and the gas tank was leaking. The Sonic was run just as hard for several years without issue and ended up with a pair of Hawk 650s. I like Formulas and the Sonic was quite a bit longer, but there's no question that a fully glassed deck is a huge advantage. Land our '78 Sutphen off a wave and the deck hatches don't even rattle. There aren't too many new boats built that solidly and never mind 35-year-old boats!

You can't compare older boats to newer, I've never heard of a sr1 or fasteck hull seperating from each other and they are solid boats. I would also think it's true that the v birth construction along with the couches and bathroom have something to do with stiffening the boats up in a pleasure boat, as race boats need those other bulkheads due to a light layup.

Hi James,
I would vote for a 42' Fountain. Mater of fact I think that is what my next boat will be. But that is a couple of years off still.

Hi Dave, so you found out what a huge difference there's between the 35 and 42 Fountains, hah. My buddy has a 35 with 600's and he was blown away by how much better the 42 performed in choppy and rough conditions.

Let's get a 42 Fountain and a 38 Top Gun together :party-smiley-004:

If I had the means to purchase a newer boat at this time, it would deffinately be "Clifford"

If you were going to have a boat built new, would you tell them that you ran boats a bit harder than many others and wanted it built a little "beefier" with more bulk heads and things like that or.....
