In my opinion, first get your price point. Are you actually in the market for a boat?...Or just wondering about this stuff.... If everyone on here is telling you to buy wine, when all you can afford is beer, its not doing you any good. First, how much are you looking to spend? Then, we (OSO) can guide you to the best boat for the money your looking to spend.

Superboat? I remember a thread with pictures of the boat

Straight bottom hull of the same weight and deadrise against a stepped of the same weight and deadrise would ride better?

Can someone explain the engineering behind why the non stepped would ride better?

I'm sure. But you can bring the neighborhood with you and use the cupholders!

I own both and in my step hull Fountain I can feel ripples as I go over smaller waves I don't feel in my 35 Marlago. But the presence or absence of steps doesn't make any difference in swells or large waves.

I have yet to be in a stepped boat that rides same or better in rough then a straight bottom....they ride lighter..all around....

I understand but do they have the same deadrise and weight?

When I look at most stepped bottom boats the deadrise is usually much less, just thinking that the "STEPS" are not what makes them ride worst.

Does a 37 AT step ride worst then the non step models? That's the question I am trying to drive towards, why would just a stepped bottom make two equal boats ride different?
