sign up and don't think twice about it! your local poker runs can be done for about 500 bucks for the day (no hotels). i've done plenty of them and always look for a way to save a buck, where there is a will there is a way. we have done the cumberland poker run a few times and we drive 13 hours from buffalo, three nights at the hotel, fuel in the truck, entrance fee, food, fuel in the boat(36 spectra) and 5 guys =$500 buck a person for the 4 day trip. you couldn't spend more money if you had too on that run. i guess you could spend 10-14k on the key west run if you were paying for everything yourself but that would be silly. i've done that one a few times as well. drag the boat from buffalo, stay in lauderdale and boat there for a few days and wait for the girls to arrive, do the thursday run, stay in kw at the pier house, and drive home with boat on monday and fly the girls home. two of us = $4 k each. not too bad if you take your time and do some planning, you will love every minute of it. the only draw back of the big ones is they tend to be a little "clickey". the first time at that run i brought an 80 starfire magnum and i got stupid looks the majority of the run with the exception of a few who enjoyed the classic. the next year i took the 97 ol and got the same treatment lol. it's a different crowd and most of the boats are big money or new lol. not saying don't do that run because it is by far the best one i have ever done, just run with a group of buddies if possible, it will make it that much more enjoyable (parking, rafting etc.) enjoy the sport of poker running, get started and don't look back:) kevin

[QUOTE=DucBoy;3811461]Funny, I asked the other side of the OP's original question last year and it seemed that the quality of the supported charity and not price was the driver. For my part, we have historically put a nice run out of Cleveland with shirts, two nights dockage, three days of bands, welcoming heavy apps on Friday, continental, lunch and dinner on Saturday, and brunch on Sunday for less than $200 for captain and mate

Dang that sounds like a. Good deal considering we payed 650$ just to enter PRA Alex Bay Hall of fame run spent over 1000$ that weekend and didn't even finish the run ( broke a starter at the lunch stop)

Ducboy what is the date of the cleveland run

Usually a $1500 weekend with fuel, slips, fees, etc. Worth every penny.

That DOES sound like a great deal! I have a place in the 1000 Islands run EVERY year (to watch) and I agree there IS attitude at some of the bigger runs, NOT looking to tar everyone with the same brush though, for example I talked to the Aqua Mania guys this year for about 30 mins and they where really nice, other guys would treat you like dirt on the bottom of there shoe because you didn't have a 800K boat, kinda turned me off the whole poker run "thing"

After attending some smaller runs I found the people a little more "open" and friendly.

I guess when it comes to "cost" it's like most things you can spend as much or little as you want; if you bring 5 of your buddies with you and haul the boat down with a Topkick or F-650, stay in a 5 star hotel, eat meals at nice restaurants and run the boat all day all weekend it's gonna cost a fortune!

If those same 5 guys pile in a Dually, stay somewhere cheap, stay out of the bars and split the costs between all 6 guys then your gonna have 99% as much fun for A LOT less loot.

Yeah I was kinda disappointed no event staff asked if we needed help I'm sure it was a very busy day for them but they didn't even notice we didn't make it to the other stops I'm sure that's different with smaller poker runs but there are guys like the aqua mania guys and bill tomilson who are just like you and me and give you a lot of respect!!! And I slept in the cabin

This is pretty much spot on that I've found. We love doing poker runs/fun runs and plan on doing it a lot more in the future. 99% of the people you meet are great people. The other 1%, just tell them to get bent if they act too uppity.

Jesus Christ 6k for a weekend poker run?? what kind of boat are you running and what strip joints are you going to?? lol

Boyne Thunder cost me 950 to register (650 Reg+3 passengers @100/person), 300 in Fuel, and I had a place to stay but even if i didnt an extra 300 for that lets say. Throw in an expensive dinner and food/drinks at bars here and there and that still is 1800 or less. That is if you are paying for it all yourself and not getting any help... there isnt any reason you cant do a nicer poker run for that. There are a few runs that cost 3-400 or less to register and arent as long as the others so between Registration and Fuel you could do those for under 600.

Towing is obviously another expense but unless you are traveling to different states your tow bill should be less than 200 round trip.

There are a lot of high rollers with a lot of money in this industry so their totals are obviously going to be much higher but for a blue collar guy the figures i gave you are probably pretty close. Get some friends to pitch in 50-100 a piece (cheap weekend for them) and your sittin even better. Have fun!
