Scarab63, saw your posts on the "apache scout ?s" thread. Did you mean Bob Saccenti ? The Scout molds belong to Defender but Bob is very involved with the Scouts comeback. Between the new Chief race boat "Warpath" and the Scout, he's keeping pretty busy.....
Very cool boat. Any tweaks planned to design? My bud did buy that 95 scout with a merc 300x I was talking about on the other thread. I got about 10 minutes seat time in it. It's a fukkin handful!!!! |

What part of Miami are you in ? Any plans on buying the 41 molds ?
|
Defender 21' Scout
No plans in acquiring any 41' molds. I'm focusing on the smaller range of performance boats, primarily the 21' Scout.
I'm in the Kendall area of Miami. Looking for something in the 40 range? |
What kind of materials and methods are planned?
Do you have a target weight in mind? And BTW, I love the idea of redoing these classics! |

pretty cool, any inboard versions or all outboards?
|
badazz looking boats,5oohp smallblock in it.maybe run in the 80s
|
I spoke with Bob in Miami a few years ago and he said he would love to have the Scout molds back. I sold my restored Scout a few years ago, and I look forward to seeing a Center Console model..
What type of glass and resin ? Use of wood ? |
Just curious,
What is the price on this, and what is your boatbuilding background? |

What is the price on this, and what is your boatbuilding background? Just that it will be comparable to other boats in it's category. As far as your other question, my area of expertise is the United States Air Force, Aircraft Maintenance of 25 yrs. I am consulting with Bob Saccenti on building the boat and following all the marine safety and structural guidelines set by the US Coast Guard. Please feel free PM me if you have any more questions. |

You'd lose most if not all of the back seat, & have major hatch clearance issues to work around. If you look in the pic I posted, towards the rear of the boat there's not too much freeboard......(less than a sm sutphen, scarab, etc.) So I'm thinking to get a motor back in there, set it to a good height....you'd be left with about 1/2 the height of the engine you'd need to build a hatch over. I Think that would kill the look. It would be fun though! |

From what I've seen of these boats making an I/0 would be a pain....

21' Scout deck vacuum bagging
Special thanks for all the positive posts... Production is moving foward as scheduled.
21' Scout deck being vacuum bagged. We are using today's newest composite materials and building technologies. Defender Scouts are built of the highest quality products. We use vacuum bagging for positive saturation and removal of excess resin. The end result of this high tech process is a lighter, stronger and a cleaner uniformed lamination. Furthermore this process "eliminates" voids and air pockets within the structure that cause delimitation.. The major composite components in use are: Airex core, Vinylester resin and Multidirectional fiberglass..... http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/u.../DSCF39691.jpg http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/u...ut/DeckVac.jpg |
Looks good.....now get started on the CC model.....

Bob Saccenti in the shop !
Bob Saccenti keeps a watchful eye on the construction techniques used to build the new 21 Scout.
