how do i move my pics from my desk top to OSO ?or post pics that are in my aol mail ?

CigDaze 07-16-2002 02:58 PM

Save them somewhere on your drive first. Then use the "browse" button when you make a post to attach them.

skatermike24 07-16-2002 03:24 PM

Nick when I do that it always come up that the image is to big, whats up with that!

CigDaze 07-16-2002 03:39 PM

Simply put, It's too big(meaning file size which is determined by the width and height of the pic in pixels).

The file should be no larger than 640 X 480 pixels.

You may need to resize some photos and shrink them. I personally use MS Photo Editor, though there are a million different pic editors.

If you have MS Photo Editor, click on "image" and then on "resize". Then save the picture under a new name so as to not overwrite the original.

Payton 07-16-2002 04:06 PM

recenly I've found some at 640x 380 to be too big. Seems like the ones with a lot of colors. I had o make it to about 600x350 to make it work.

PhantomChaos 07-16-2002 04:10 PM

Guys-

See my post on this thread here..........

WES311,
Resolution also comes into play. The higher the res the better it looks but more data it contains. Try sizing the file to 640 x 480 at 72 res. Be sure to use "Save As" and save it as .jpg under a new file name. (This way if you want to print your picture you can use the origional "high res" file.)

I think the file sizelimit on OSO is WAY TO SMALL.
I go on www.exriders.com forum and theres is about 901k but the oso one is sort of ALOT smaller its almost a pain to post pictures on this website. I just tried to upload more than 4 different pics and they were all to big, I think oso needs to make the uload size of the pics about 901k

BeeRock-

That 900K file size is NO GOOD! There is no reason for that! If a thread had 20 pictures in it that were that size, each and every time that someone looked at the thread, it would download the photos.....about 18Meg worth of data and would be slow as hell !!!!!!!!

Here is a photo example for you. It is less than 640x480 due to the vertical profile, but it is 480 high. I saved this photo with different quality (resolution) settings. I will post four copies of the same photos and indicate the file size for each. You will be able to see that on your screen, there isn't THAT much difference in the quality, and you can see what's going on in the photo.

This one is 44.8K in file size.

Steamin Rice 07-16-2002 05:27 PM

Nort,

Thanks for the lesson...But I still don't understand.....Can you give another example?:D

birdog 07-16-2002 05:37 PM

Ummmm Im a little slow........Better show some more.....:D

beerock 07-16-2002 05:40 PM

how were you allowed to upload those large pics?

900k is no big deal for cable or dsl, and my 56k dial up had no problem with it either..

www.exriders.com allows up to 901k and there arent long times of lag to see the pics.....

its nerve racking trying resize the pics, and right now im trying to get my own avatar up and its always too damn big :o

the other thing that sucks is that even if you have your own ftp server you cant use the IMG tag to show people.

whats up with that???????

TomR 07-16-2002 05:43 PM

I could see that again!!!!:)

Laveyman 07-16-2002 06:39 PM

Lesson or not, that one was worth posting four times no matter what!!! YAMBAAA!!!

Okay.............what is so hard to understand here? Digital photos have only a few parameters that change the file size a lot:

1. Photo pixel array dimensions. The 640x480 photo size is the maximum that OSO allows on this board, and is certainly perfect for what is needed here.

2. Resolution (quality). Normally, you need some type of photo editor program to change a photo's quality.

3. Color or black/white.

4. File type (jpg, gif, bmp.....).

To better demonstrate saving photos in a lower quality level, here is another example of a photo with different file sizes. I will note the file sizes again.

This one is 51.6K in file size.
