Default Headers on a Budget

Hey guys I am looking for some advice. I bought a used pair of BB engines to re-power my boat. They are not crazy HP only about 480. They have old exhust manifolds on them that are junk. I also have a set of regular Merc manifolds in the boat on my current engnes. My question is what should I do for exhaust if I make the swap? I can not justify making the swap and putting my stock manifolds on, nor can I justify $6000 for new ones. I was told if i bought 496 take off manifolds it may be a less expensive option. I know they are ot as good as headers, but are they a little better than my stock 454 ones? I appreciate your input!

I bought 2 sets of Merc/Gils 5 years ago. They had been used in salt water and had some corrosion starting. I had 2 pin holes on the inside welded up and the samd blasted the Gilcoat off the outside and had the powdercoated my colors. I boat in fresh water and 5 years later they work and look great. I think I paid $300 per set.

I have a old set of stalling headers (green) no tall pipe and you will have to get them tested but you can have them for 2000.00$ for both set

"Headers on a Budget"? I've learned the hard way that next to oil and fuel, functioning, non-leaking, exhaust manifolds/headers are the most important part on your engine. (ok, I many of you are thinking of 92 other single points of failure)

Buy new ones, you might save money now, but you will pay later on.
