Bilge paint recommendations
 

I realize there are alot of threads on this, mainly because i have read them all... Some being very old.

What are current thoughts and experiences with painting the bilge.

As of now i have removed all the rigging i plan to remove, and cleaned with Purple Power the existing bilge. I am curious what my next steps? more cleaning? Acetone? Or maybe im ready for paint?? If so, what paint to use.

After a thorough cleaning, we sand the bilge with 80 grit and paint it with Interlux Bilge Koat. It is bilge specific paint that will stand up to grease, oil, gas, etc. I think it's only offered in white, black and grey though.

+1 Bilge Kote, easy, self leveling. Nice hard finish. Easy to work with and easy cleanup.

Just did mine with bilge kote and it turned out great!

did you guys all sand first? or just clean and paint?

Rustoleum

Take jabs at me but I painted half my bilge with White Bilgekote and the other half with White Rustoleum and neither one has stains. (1.5 years ago)

Smells the same, both get you high if you are in there too long painting as well...

I just did min in rustoleum rolled it on, looks nice leveled itself out easy to use, but time consuming moving and re running the lines and hoses.

can you brush rustoleum on?

I have been hearing Rustomium industrial paint in the fiberglass section forever but have not had a chance to try it. Most of my stuff is from raw glass and i have the equipment to just gel it but would like to give the Rust-o stuff a shot sometime. So is there a part number for it or a particular place to get it, whats the exact name of it? I have an all epoxy job in the shop i am getting ready to wrap up and i think this would be a great finish for it.

Boomer just bought the paint for mine today, Sherman Williams industral coating, paint B65W311 part S, hardner B60V30, we use it on are carwash equiment gets hard as rock and last a super long time in the wet invierment, was going to use bilge coat but that i thought no hardner, with bilge coat why use it.... degreased mine first then sanded with 80grit, going to try to smooth out the sides some what...thats the point I'm at right now, then I'll wash it down again after all the sandings done, wipe it down with acetone or ppg 3030 and paint...oh I'm brushing or rolling it on...joe
