Velocity VR1 project
5 Attachment(s)
I picked up a Velovity VR1 that had been set up to race. Someone may recognize the boat. These are some pics of what it looked like before it was taken back to the Velocity factory to be redone. I'll post more pics as the work is done.

Wrap was removed and interior ripped out. Windshield put on.
Lots of work to go. |
2 Attachment(s)
The boat was mocked up prior to painting.
|
If someone has info on this boat, please let me know.
Its got a sealed motor from Innovation. Seal is still in place. |
I thought the wrap looked pretty good :party-smiley-004:

I like it with the windshield much better,
|
The wrap looked good from a distance but looked worn when you got close up. It had a bunch of scratches and was starting to peel. Once it was off, I just decided to go with paint.
I'm thinking that the windshield was not part of the boat when it was first built, given that it was built to race. It only had front seats. But since it was bought by someone along the way and it's what Velocity uses and fits perfectly. I used it. |
I love what you are doing.
Window looks great on that boat and the new grafic flows very well with the lines. keep up the good work on it. |

Out of the paint booth and getting the new rubrail. The old one was an all black rubber looking one.
|
It's nice to see an old warhorse brought back to life . Great job . May she reward you with much pleasure .

If what the trailer says is true with "Solarized" the last time it was raced was 2005 in Marathon, spin out and wreck... I believe the owners name was Bill Park or Parks something like that. You might want to call Hall's Propeller Service in Christmas as he has a lot of knowledge on the Velocity Race boats. Heck Mike might have even been in the boat when the wreck occured

These are some pics of the unfinished cabin prior to starting work on it.
The extra bulkheads put in for racing will mostly stay. They shouldnt be too much in the way. |

Starting to work on the cabin. A bunch of glass work and wiring had to be done.

More work on the interior.

Cool project

I like it with the wind screen. Boat is looking good.
|
That is one good looking boat! The windscreen looks great & the paint just POPs! Are those Eddie marine seat bases? I have been thinking about those for my boat but wasn't liking the 550.00 each. Keep up the good work & please post more pics, thanks for sharing. Randy

Boat looks real nice. Nice job by VELOCITY...... You will enjoy this boat.
|
Looks great. I like the lines of the velocity. Is the vr1 the same as a 280 except for the molded in swim deck?

Where can I get one of those air intakes that sit right on the top of it?
|
Vr1
All these questions can be answered by Kenny at Velocity
The boat was raced by Bill Parks and was extremely fast and yes Mike at Halls knows the boat well. The boat was in NC for the last 3 years. It went to Florida last summer and I and Velocity Tom put the scoop on to get more air to the engine compartment last fall. It is a pro mod scoop (bolt on) The prop is not the race prop and could use some help. Mike at Halls Propeller can tweak a prop for the VRI better than anyone I know. Good luck on the resurrection of this very nice boat. |
Thanks for the info.
I've had a bunch of Fountains in the past but this will be the first Velocity. Hopefully, all my changes aren't going to add a lot of weight but we'll see how it runs soon. |

Did you mention what power you are going with? The motor was built by Innovation for a defunct race series. Its a 502 ci. I'm sure someone on here knows its HP. Its got a Bravo XR drive. The bildge has not yet been cleaned. |
