Lets Compare !! Two Buddies with a heated arguement.

I have two buddies in a heated arguement over boat brands. A No-Brainer for me but lets take a vote. If you were to be given a free v-bottom boat would you choose the Starvation (I mean Sunsation) or an Outerlimits?

If you were given your choice of cats would it be an Mti or Nortech??

Nightlife1970 02-13-2013 09:46 AM

Being from Michigan I would have to go with the sunny.

Probably would take the Nortech, but would be happy with either.

boats74 02-13-2013 09:49 AM

Outerlimits. Probably would lean towards the Nor-Tech

POWERPLAY J 02-13-2013 09:55 AM

No brainer... OL. NT.

Nate5.0 02-13-2013 09:56 AM

For me.....

Outerlimits

Nor-tech

That takes NOTHING away from Sunsation or MTI it's just personal preferance and nothing more. All those companys make some very nice boats!

innerrage 02-13-2013 10:02 AM

sunsation and nortec.

CustomPerf 02-13-2013 10:03 AM

Looking for opinions from persons with experience and or seat time with these brands. Not choice because of where you live. Experienced 40ft plus boat guys

CustomPerf 02-13-2013 10:05 AM

let me throw skater in the mix for a cat choice

glassdave 02-13-2013 10:23 AM

I would probably go OL and Nor-Tech

Kind of odd choices between Sunsation and OL, two very different classes of boats. I would take the OL but Sunsation has always made a great boat built some pretty dedicated guys up there.

MIT and Nor-tech is a tough one as well. I have always been a HUGE MTI fan but for my boating i like heavier wet laid up boats. I also like cats with cabins but ultimately my dream boat is the 43 V that Jeff Jasby built with the diesels and Arnesons.

sr73z 02-13-2013 10:45 AM

outerlimits, skater. mabey barry will get the min. wage up high enough so that everyone will be able to afford one of each...:picard1:

CustomPerf 02-13-2013 11:00 AM

Performance comparison is what we are arguing here. hands down real numbers and performance. Not trying to take anything from any brand they are all nice boats. depending on your boating style. I just know from seat time and what I see on the race course. Oh wait sunsation and nor tech arent on the race course.

professor_speed 02-13-2013 11:02 AM

Ol, mti

CustomPerf 02-13-2013 11:07 AM

Likefastboats 02-13-2013 11:08 AM

"FOUNTAIN" And personaly I'm not interested in owning at Cat of any make. That's just me, Guess I'm either just Old School or wierd.

ChadB 02-13-2013 11:42 AM

Impossibly silly and unanswerable comparison until/unless you specify some parameters:

- showroom boat, or race-built?
- Great Lakes washing machine? Reggie's river? Estuary slalom course? 5-mile slalom, or 25? Cowes-Torquay-Cowes?

If the answer is (c), GlassDave has it right. You'd need 2 or 3 sets of wheels to kinda-sorta match the hatch, but HP 'R HP.

It's outerlimits and MTI for me!!!

OL and Skater, but comparing Sunsation and OL is like choosing between an M3 and a 458 both nice but not in the same class, and how can you have a cat discussion that doesn't include Skater??? Your buddies don't sound like geniuses. :lolhit:

That's where the sunsation makes much less sense. Their main market is in the 28-36 ft range. Outerlimits main market is in the 40 foot plus range.

The two manufacturers make one comparable model. The sunsation F4 (43') can be compared to the 44 SL but I highly doubt they would have the same power.

They are just completely different brands for different buyers. It doesn't make one brand better than the other, just different.

tjred 02-13-2013 02:05 PM

OL and MTI.

DirtyMoney 02-13-2013 02:12 PM

Ol and MTI. Didn't have to think about this one.

cp5899 02-13-2013 02:34 PM

Ol and Mti. Even it was going off of looks alone I still choose Ol and Mti. Sick boats! Not that I have ANY experience with either...lol

n20michael 02-13-2013 03:43 PM

Outerlimits, no brainer!
Like asking if you would rather have a free Vette or free Bugatti Veyron

I'm pretty much in agreement here. At least ONE of his buddies doesn't sound like a genius LOL!

jmjmotors 02-13-2013 03:52 PM

.

Kind of disagree there. OL makes a 29, 37 CC, then the 40+ boats and an upcoming 36. Sunsation makes a 28, 32, 34 CC, 36 and 43. Both builders make MCOB boats (last OL with MCOB was 52 w/diesels).

As far as power, of the 14 or so F4's made, all had 700's with the exception of the first one (600's), one 662 CE boat and one 1075 boat. Shogren had one built with no power, just #6's so I don't know what got installed on that one.

Ironically, the OP's buddies left Cig off the list?

Strip Poker 388 02-13-2013 04:50 PM

to me thats 2 diff things ,2 are comfort and 2 are fast, depends on what ya want

Reggie 02-13-2013 05:15 PM

OL and MTI.....

1989mach1 02-13-2013 05:57 PM

ol and nor-tech

1989mach1 02-13-2013 06:00 PM

but i love my donzi if that was one of the v's i think i would have to say with my zx just add bigger power

PremierPOWER 02-13-2013 08:38 PM

What is the exact argument? "If you could have a free one, which would you pick?" Kind of a silly argument, ESP the Sunsation vs OL. Both very nice boats but OL is custom one offs and Sunsation isn't as custom. I still don't think there is anything to debate or argue with even if you tell your buddies 99% of the OSO guys said OL. Still doesn't prove anything, just people's opinions.

OL and Skater Really arguing Sunsation I would get a New buddy :lolhit:

And I have owed a Sunsation and spent many Hours in others. Free is the only way I would have another and it would be for sale the same day

t10bender 02-13-2013 09:26 PM

Coming from St. Louis and knowing Randy, def, a MTI. Sensation for my grocery getter!

US1 Fountain 02-13-2013 09:49 PM

Since they will be given to me, I'd pick the 2 that I could sell for the most $$ the quickest.
