Victory Reportedly Withdraws from Class 1
It appears that the Victory Team has withdrawn from the 2013 Class 1 season…

Qatar has a firm schedule here. Can we get Victory to join them?
Oh, pretty please? |

I'd love for Victory to hit the US circuit.

Why else would they withdraw?? They are coming here to battle with Team USA Geico and Team Qatar for the "Ryder" Cup!

If this is the case Then Somebody better be in negotiations with Speed Channel to get offshore racing on TV, cause 2013 will be epic.

I want to see TEAM US CMS in that mix too

Jason Johnson's story got me thinking (risky stuff, I know) ...
Viewed from afar, the grass seems a whole greener in UIM Class 1. But when you talk to people who are in it and have been so for a long time, you learn that, much as you wish otherwise, it's not. They have politics. They have power struggles. They have battles over technical rule changes. They have checkbook racing. About the only issue we have in domestic offshore racing that they don't? A gazillion classes that make no sense to anyone other than the racers who compete in them. I take no satisfaction in the struggles of UIM Class 1. In fact, I wish it presented a complete and thriving model for offshore racing worldwide. Sadly, it does not. No one has it completely figured out. No one. But like the rest of you, I'm hopeful |
Interesting. Raceboat magazine painted this as a sign of economic struggles in Dubai. It would be real cool if they brought their boats over to race. It would be cool to see CMS, Gasse, Geico, and others race against them. They all have raced with or against each other in some capacity. I don't know why Victory Team would pull out of Class 1, they seem to control it, to race over here. I am unable to link the article from Raceboat International Magazine.

Doubtful they would come to the U.S.!
The U.S. is not without faults as well and seeing what happened to the Maritimo team after Key West, why would anyone come to the US to race? What a sad state of affairs boat racing is in and with this economy hard to see it improving any. |

Nascar is a buisness. The Corporation rules. Offshore racing is a hobby sport with type A thrillseeking egomaniacs with various sized checkbooks and their own iinterests at heart. Unless something big comes in from outside the sport, organizes it and throws dollars at it with a way of getting more dollars back... There really isn't much hope. If the racers are having fun, I think thats about the best you can hope for and expect.

The new superboat class has a 66 inch max tunnel and six drives only. That wasnt a secret in November.

Wow that's pretty messed up. So did they ban it for future races? or did they strip the title? Did they ban it based on just tunnel? or was it cause of the drives?
limited to piston only ????????? no one ever learns from history,,,,,,,,,,,look back at supercat in its heyday, tommy bahama and the other shaft drive mti seemed to have an edge even with same tunnel width and added weight. was it that they tested more, had good setup guys, throttleman or sterling power vs merc ? |

Afterwards, everyone complained and voted it a Merc drive and tunnel restriction class as no one could afford to step up to a new boat they claimed nor purchase surface drives. |

its cause they won, and the rest were being cry baby's.... typical offshore racing. they say they want to race everyone and anyone and then as soon the elite of that particular class losses they start finding ways to get rid of the competition. look at the unlimited class that is ...............................

The irony in all this is that each racer had the chance to purchase surface drives or Merc. They all believed that Merc was better until they they saw the difference first hand. Look at the winners in the races in KW. Qatar Maritimo Tilted Kilt Aqua Mania Honorable mentions: Geico Lucas Oil Sheds Plus Metamarine Semper Fi All have surface drives and everyone wants more racers to race in the US but the US is the only country that runs predominately Merc. Then they close ranks and make the new classes Merc only. Then everyone says "why are there no surface drive boats racing"? |

Regardless of what SBI have in the books. The Maritimo guys are winners. They put on a great show, and are hard core racers. Hats off. |

I don't believe they were stripped of the 12' KW title as much as they and like boats were banned for the 13' season in the new Superboat class which everyone was wanting racers to join in.
We welcome them, and their surface drives :). |

To be fair, if I remember the race right, weren't they on the far end of the course, and just launched off a huge wave went it happened? The boat was so far airborne that it completely submarined when they landed. Hard to imagine ANY drive that could withstand a beating like that...
Anything else Ryann? That was the first time that happened, the previous year a trim cylinder nut came off. Flat Rate, do you want to race against Tilted Kilt?:lolhit: |
probably why all the big boys run BPM drives
