Really?

I'm not the brightest bulb in the pack, or the shiniest tool in the shed. I try and not step on any toes, cause drama or fights and keep my sarcastic comments to myself. But this add sent me over the top. Really this guy wants me to bring my gps so he can prove his boat does 100? I'd love to take you up on this good sir, and if it breaks the triple digit speed I guess I found my new boat!!

articfriends 03-02-2013 01:19 AM

That hp 500 better be a full race 604 and even then I think its going to come up 25 mph short!!

mickeymcclgn 03-02-2013 01:25 AM

I mean I usually don't like the bashing thread stuff and he has some nice hardware on the boat it is built right from the pics. Just alittle (or alot) exaggerated on the wish o meter. At what speed do you hit a wave and your pedestal seat base break off? Just curious.

Crude Intentions 03-02-2013 01:31 AM

Also. With 100 mph top speed wouldn't te cruise be better than 25?

Exactly what I was thinking, hmmmmmm. I would be scared to go 100mph in a small boat like that. :evilb:

compedgemarine 03-02-2013 08:09 AM

maybe the motor turns 18,000 rpm. that would work out about right for a cruise speed of 25 and a top speed of 100

mickeymcclgn 03-02-2013 09:49 AM

In the words of "the doc" "when she hits 88 miles an hour you're gonna see some $hit"

hammer01 03-02-2013 10:05 AM

The 500 efi is rated at 470 hp I believe and I wonder if this was put in later because I didn't think they were going into new boats as late as 2007 but could be wrong. I know it's a bigger boat but a buddy had the 253 with a slightly bumped 575 and was a strong runner but still only an 85 mph boat with absolute best conditions and that's an extra 130 hp or more.

glassdave 03-02-2013 10:28 AM

Actually looks like a pretty nice rig, maybe not a hundy but i would bet its close or gah-damn fast none the less :D

Lol. Based on the ad and the fact I read 100mph on the internet it seems legit.

Before GPS I drilled the pitot on a boat I was selling. Instantly ran 8mph faster. :lolhit:

blefever 03-02-2013 10:30 AM

Anyone notice the speed-o tops out at 80? Maybe he's reading the tach at 5 (5000) rpm and thinking it's 50 mph and x2 that. Honest mistake :) lol

mickeymcclgn 03-02-2013 10:47 AM

I do agree completely that it is a very nice boat, it has nice quality parts on it. And super clean. Just why not be straight and say its a 70-75 mile an hour boat? No shame in that at all. I hope to be that fast this year with more hp.
I saw the speedo went to 80 must have went back around to 20 and added them together.

I think I'm gonna drill my speedo tube too! Hello extra mph!!

NevrThrottleBack 03-02-2013 10:52 AM

Well I think it would do low to mid 70's BUT....Adding the "Gelled In" graphics, Billett Battery tray, Billet fire extinguisher bracket and chrome fire extinguisher, AND a BRAND NEW KNEE BOARD, all that will add a AT LEAST another 25-30MPH!!!!!:evilb:

mickeymcclgn 03-02-2013 11:10 AM

Oh $hit it comes with a brand new knee board? I'm sold now!! I want to be on that bad boy (the knee board) when we break into the triple digits. It'll be epic:poopoo:

cigboat1 03-02-2013 11:19 AM

Give the guy a break ! Cant you guys see the WARP DRIVE BUTTON on the dash !!!!The only way that boat is going to go 100 miles per hour is if Miss Geico dragged it ............

Jim

JPD Motorsports 03-02-2013 11:54 AM

Take the GPS with and a back up GPS then tell him, if it breaks a 100 mph by X amount for so long, you would buy it, but if it dosent he gives the boat to ya.. get him to put up or shut up..

US1 Fountain 03-02-2013 11:55 AM

Drilling out your speedo pickup isn't going to make it read higher.
Pressure is pressure, and your speedo is nothing but a pressure gauge

Fountain Family 03-02-2013 12:24 PM

Maybe he was going down hill with the wind to his back when it broke 100...

Cobra100+ 03-02-2013 12:48 PM

Didnt say under the boats own power, Must have a bad azz tow rig!:daz:

Fwiw. It was the pitot hole on a 2001 Bravo. The hole on the leading edge was smaller than the passage. And for whatever reason it did work...

tbirdusa 03-02-2013 01:34 PM

I loosened up the gauge and turned it 30degrees clockwise then tighten her back up. I picked up like 9 mph or so.

You gotta give him credit for trying to be a salesman. If somebody who doesn't know any better is looking for a boat he has all the right words written down.

bouncedcheque 03-02-2013 03:51 PM

ZT 230:
350 mag 300 hp - 58 gps (my previous rig)
6.2 - 320 hp - 61 gps
496HO - 425 hp - 72 gps anyday, Bravo one, 77 gps, all time best in -5 degrees, labbed 29 mirage plus (my previous rig after upgrade)
500 EFI, 470 - could possibly run 85, but she'd be VERY squirrely; likely high 70s anyday
She'd be a flying coffin at 100

TRL505 03-02-2013 04:07 PM

Ill kiss this guys a$$ in front of Macy's window and give him 30min to draw a crowd if this thing does 100mph.

He also has a short drive on it that may help his speed a little.

At the test drive, maybe he is counting on you getting in with GPS, the boat getting squirrely at 70-75 with some throttle left, and you chickening out on putting the hammer all the way down and holding it, till it tops out at 80-85. That way, he says it could do it, in the right conditions, and blames you and the weather for it not happening.

pullmytrigger 03-02-2013 04:33 PM

Do it take pics

flysfloatsor 03-02-2013 05:41 PM

Its a nice boat. Not as fast as he claims, but still nice. For north of 50k I could find a bigger /nicer/ faster single engine vee though.

phughes69 03-03-2013 08:51 PM

Hey... Why are you guys being so mean to this poor guy!!! Triple Digits hit 100 MPH (with a 434 SBC making 637 hp and nitrous in a boat probably 300 lbs lighter), why cant this guy. He does live in NASSCAR land. Surprised he did not say that his engine was custom built and tuned by Petty Enterprises

:party-smiley-004:

r015 03-03-2013 09:57 PM

100 mph ? not

I had a DCB 24' v bottom with built in swim platform,so it had a 22' actual step bottom and it had and good HP 500, but basically stock 470 HP with 2" imco shorty and ran a 30P and sometimes 28 lab bravo - 84mph at anytime and it was a good runner.
Enough said, you know how much more horsepower it would take to go 100mph.
Simple question real RPM and Pitch ?
Probably another 200HP ,it's impossible???

my 2 cents

phughes69 03-03-2013 10:40 PM

Well I emailed the guy today asking about it. this is what i asked "I have a question about the validity of your 100 MPH claim? Have you really had the boat up to 100 MPH on GPS? I saw you boat mentioned on a forum and had to ask."

and this is his response "this boat was built for speed from the very beginning
there are so many upgrades, you really need to see it to believe it
yes, there are always 2 gps's on board to verify speed
thanks for your interest
come see it"

mickeymcclgn 03-03-2013 11:08 PM

Maybe he sprayed the bottom with the ultra ever dry?

Built from speed from the very beginning and carries 2 GPS? that extra weight might knock him down to 99 mph, gps verified of course.

HTRDLNCN 03-03-2013 11:12 PM

"Boatally Insane" on here had a Checkmate 230 Convincer , actual 21.5ft of bottom with 1.5ft of platform...
Had 695 hp( dynoed full dress) ran 85mph..
The only way the one in the ad would run 100mph is on the trailer behind a very fast tow vehicle..

Two GPS's...

Generates
Power &
Speed

GPS, the modern day flux capacitor, its all in the electronics not the dinosaur fueled motor dummy!! :lolhit:

Frank,

I only had 599.5 hp but I didn't have a "Custom Billet Ski Tow Ring" so that must make up the difference in MPH...

Beautiful Checkmate though.. :)

r015 03-04-2013 05:20 PM

Whatever it takes to get someone to see it,best way, peek their interest without any real facts.

This would be a waste of time ,if anyone was looking for more than what it really is.

Know a guy that has a 24' checkmate,seen it run with 632 ci. and does run 106 mph with complete imco drive,but i'm guessing it's 750-800 + hp.Beautiful boat.

O'well just hate it when people won't be up front when selling things.

Later

I agree. 200HP+

The boat does have some nice parts though.

Somebody has to take a ride with this guy and bring their GPS to report back to us the real #.

"Built for speed from the beginning....." :cartman:
