Down here in the summer black top deck doubles as a cook top, eggs, pancakes, bacon you name it. Also useful if you cut your foot in the water, just take a walk across the deck instant cauterization of the cut.
Hell, it ain't gotta be black. Just pick up a crescent wrench that has been laying out in the sun for a hour or so without gloves. Good way to remove your fingerprints.
