Teague 800's/ platinum XR's
I made the mistake of going to Miami for the poker run and now find myself shopping for a bigger and faster boat. I am considering making an offer on a boat that has a pair of 06 model Teague 800's. They have around 240 hrs on them and have never been freshened. Is there anything that I need to know about these engines in general? I will do a compression test before purchase, but it will be difficult to do a leakdown as it is sitting on a lift miles away from a good source of compressed air.
I have looked up the specs on the new Teague 825 and it says 509CI with a 3.3L whipple. Would this be accurate for these older 800's? What about the drives, are they plenty good enough for the 800's? Thanks |

The drives are the Teague Platinum XR's that came with the engine pkg originally. It is a 40'V hull, fairly light layup for its length.

I carry a spare XR drive with me everywhere I go now. I might need to carry 2 if I buy this boat.

Have you tried calling Teague? They seem to be straight up and honest.

The only thing I would be aware of is the blowers. If they are the old Whipples made by Lysholm, you might find yourself replacing them soon. Mine went out around 150hours. You can tell the difference between the two, the newer Whipples have "Whipple" cast into the case on top, whereas the Lysholm doesn't. With 240 hours, I would look into having them freshened just for preventative sake.
The Teague XR drives are built very well, I've had great success with them, but mines not 40ft... x2 on calling Bob, he'll tell you everything you need to know about the boat. Is this the 40 Advantage open top? PM me if you want some more info, I can tell you some of my experience with the 800/TCM XR over the past 7 years. |
Yes, the 40 at LOTO. I think that the superchargers have "Whipple" cast into the tops.

I've owned the carb TCM800HP's along with the Teague Platinum XR's. The whole package was very reliable. They will stand up to the abuse, and you can stack the hours on them. Give Eric @ Teague a call for more detailed info.
