Cigarette Cafe Racer
I am looking for any input, pro's/con's on the Cafe Racer's. I am looking to purchase my first high performance boat.
|
Which one?
Slow and Heavy |
Well built boat, I always recommend a survey.
Wannabe |
Built solid and great in rough water. There are a few very nice updated Cafes out there right now.
|
Awesome rough water boats, never the fastest but great ride and most can be bought for a great value. A lot of people (me included) want a top gun, so demand is a little lower holding the price in check.
|
I enjoyed the one I had. They are slow with stock power. Mine was a 420 trs boat. It ran about 63

Cafe
I have a 750 Hawk, #3 boat, for the money, I love it
|
This one has 710hp merlin engines with konrad 540 outdrives. It appears to be in good condition for a 89.

Erik's boat. With a new carbon dash. You can not go wrong with a Cafe. It will still be cruising along in rough water, when the others have slowed down or stayed at home.

More of Erik's boat

An original hot rod with #3s

Erik's Cigarette Cafe

Very nice Boat, how fast is it?
|
Thats not the one I am looking at, that one is bad you know what tho. The one I am talking about has tsunami marine on the engines and across the back, and killer graphics. The cockpit has not been updated like Erik's boat.

Pics?

I had one for 7 years and loved that boat! Get a survey if it checks out buy it! There is only 2'6" difference to the gun. The Gun has a notched transom which seems to give it a slight edge in speed. Bravo straight bottom guns porpise like crazy at cruise speed.i love the look of the Cafe deck it is timeless. Post some pics. Mine with 550 per side and Bravos ran 78mph.

They are great boats and ride great in rough water...takes some power to get them to move though, while you never be the fastest, you will be out front in rough water, best move I ever made buying one couldn't be happier......thanks 4195!!

What kind of speeds am I looking at with 700hp engines. I am not sure but i think I saw 26p on the prop. They are 4 blade bravo's. Will the boat porpoise bad?
|
I have seen a couple of nice ones on Craigslist in the Connecticut area.
|
its a prestige thing there is only about 100 cafes in the states. and I dont think any 2 were painted alike , quite a few have been updated / paint interiors most have had motors . ive had mine for 12 years it does everything I need it to do. there was a post in the cig section showing most cafes in states

im spin in 28s with my 500efi's
|
nice one on ebay

26's are way too small if those are true 700's.
I am biased obviously, but I love mine. BEAUTIFUL lines with the sloped fairings and the recessed deck makes for a functional deck. They will run faster in 4 foot waves than in 2 footers and are borderline anchors in flat water. Get a full one-ton to tow with or you're going to be undertrucked. My wife and I have spend about 50 nights on ours comfortably, run in a bunch of poker runs and even spent an occasional hour or two anchored out and partying - it has always been a great boat for what we've wanted. SOME of the boats allegedly had a slight mis-alignment in the jig when the trim tabs were drillled which could cause stringer rot. This isn't COMMON, but happened on a few early ones as I understand - other than that, build quality issues never really seem to be discussed. |
That is a bs story I wouldn't worry about

Kavalk
Yes I know tony, he has restored both my 19 Classic and 19 continental

Cafe
And if you do buy a Cig I highly recommend Zero Patience if you need work done, his work is top notch and he is one of the good guys in the boating world.
Erik |
I newer had a problem with porpousing...wth 700hp you should see high 70s mabe 80...I am running 540s about 600 or so and see 77 everyday alittle chop and it will touch 80 now again prop is a 26p b1 that has had a lot of massaging done....

I am definitly having a survey done, talked to the guy last night said he can do it sometime next week. Is there anything that i can point out besides the transom and stringer problems? I also have the hull serial number is there anyway to contact cig to find out more.
|
Great boats, solid as the day is long, not to piss anyone off, but close to an Apache. I don't see how you could go wrong.
|
I got the café racer. Been out a few times, working some of the bugs out or should I say getting things the way I want them. Should be fully operational by the end of next week and hope to do some serious boating.
|
Congrats! Post up some pictures! Create a photobucket or image shack account and link them!
|
Congratulations, timeless beauty.
|
