24 deg,no step,no pad? est power?

Yep 24deg, notched transom. I added the 3" up box. I'm only running 700hp thus far but Eddie had a blower motor likely in the 900-1000hp range to get it to that speed if i had to guess. Maybe he'll see this and comment.

our 2004 Checkmate Convincor 300 was at 107mph doing a complete freshen up and rerig this spring shooting for 120mph this year...fingers crossed!!!

Matthew is the one in the video i posted earlier. He has a best on the gun of 113 on the Rappahannock. He did 108 at Tims last fall.

28 Howard - Theres a few of them with big power running 100+. One ran 130 several years back.

2750 Lavey Craft - Quent's 2750 ran 105+ with an open bow and ~1000hp. Look at thread in LaveyCraft forum.

Is that the blue and white one? What power are you going up to this year? Always thought that was a sharp boat, thought you might have sold it.

abones 03-28-2013 08:12 PM

There has to be more 100 mph V bottoms out there come on out with it people!!!

So I will keep it going with a short blip on my old Checkmate. I bought it new in 1988, as a 454 TRS set up, bored out the motor changed the cam (ultradyne flat tappet), lighning headers, B&M Blower, NOS, speedy lower, K Planes, ran 98 (not 100) mph in 1988 and was very easy to drive no chine walking ran like it was on a set of rails, that same set up would run better with todays prop technology and intercooled.

Lets keep it going!

LicenseToChill 03-28-2013 09:24 PM

I'm seeing 112 on my 35...... But she's a real driver. I should get at least another 5 out of it with better props. Hopefully I can get her to settle down a bit as well :D

What year 35? We had a similar problem with a customers 01 (I think...tall windshield, big steps) 35. 500efis and whipples....would get really out of shape in the high 90s.

bwd 03-28-2013 10:12 PM

Are we still talkin about single engine here? that's the question right. BTW I love the checkmate story, great closure bud huh?

Keytime 03-28-2013 10:42 PM

Great thread. Especially loving the Checkmate stories for obvious reasons. :D

Yes Great closure for me. Thanks to 82Predictor's detective work!! I never said much about it to people because they would think I was nuts!

We had an 800 in a ZT280 that was extremely stable at 96 too. With a custom mirage plus 29 that boat handled great...put a bravo 1 on it and be ready to drive! :D

2004..... it's fine up to about 100 and then gets real out of shape. The boat actually settles down on it's own around 108. I'm running a set of 5b Maximus props but they don't carry the bow very well. I want to try a set of of Herings with a bit more rake and surface area. I was told by one of the best Fountain guys out there that all 35s like mine will do the same thing. It will take some time but I'm sure I'll get it to be more manageable. But first things first...... gotta get the race boat ready for Biloxi :D

I have a 2000 272 Baja that has ran 100 mph, that is its fastest though on its best run ever, smallest pulley, 20 gallons of gas, no extra weight on board. Will run mid 90's any day of the week with 3/4 tank gas, cooler and a couple passengers, Smitty

JimV's straight bottom 1992 27' Fountain, 565cu" NA 783HP scares the heck out of 100mph. Ran over 100mph with a blower.

Don't forget about Check300's monster, I believe he is in the teens to 120 range in a 30' single.

He chimed in earlier, but I think pics are necessary. ;)

When you see a Checkmate with a 6 on the back... look out.

I have a 509 procharged zt280 that struggles with chine walk and running wet. Currently spinning a 28p bravo 1. Would you recommend a mirage plus for more bow lift, and settling it down a little?

Rob after my 25 checkmate, I bought a 28 with twin 502 Mags and with Bravo 1s it had WAY to much stearn lift and the boat would chine and plow at the same time. Hard to drive and unpredictable. went back to turned up 27 Mirages, and the bow ran up nice no chine and ran mid 80s bone stock. do you have the Kplanes and Hyd steering? I would recomend talking to Mercury racing about making you a custom prop. I have used the exclusivly for the past 20 years, right know thay made me a set of special 32s runing 9% slip. How deep is the drive?

I have only run the boat for a 15 minute sea trial, and then a quick 30 min rip with the family in late October in MI. Before it was put up for the winter. However I noticed a couple things right away. Boat was only spinning 4900 rpm's, with about a 700 hp procharged 509. And running 75 gps. Bow was running very wet, and lots of chine walk. Has the factory tabs, and no steering yet. But that will all change soon! But knee jerk reaction is that this thing needs a different prop for starters?

Reinforcer runs over a 100 with I think 850-900 and if I don't sell mine before I put my motor back in and buy a SCX I will be over 100

Damn, what has happened to OSO....

8 pages of responses and only two vague references to good Ol' TrippleDouche......

PS. my vote goes to Geoo's tricked out X18 Donzi at 120+. That thing is an engineering marvel.
Last time I saw it live, we were in the 1000 Islands for a Donzi Run. The weather had been ****ty for most of the day, but cleared up late afternoon. Geoo was laying down 100 MPH passes in front of Boldt Castle and the Coasties weren't budging off the dock. We went out in a Classic 22 and promptly got stopped. The were friendly enough, gave us a warning and asked us to pass the message on to our friend in the smaller Donzi, cause there was no way they were coming out to try to catch him.....

I have tried every kind of prop on my single with decent hp and never could get a mirage pkus to ever work, would always break loose once it went into boost and slip in the 30% plus range, will be interesting to see if you can make one work. A friend of mine runs a 27 3 blade on his sunsation with near stock power, if you haven't found one to try when we talk I will borrow it for you, Smitty

I think I found some props to try a little closer to home. But after I get some base a/f readings, I am sure my ecm is going to need a little tune. Not to mention I want to put my smaller pulley on. We will chat soon.

I've personally driven a Laveycraft 28 EVO with an Ilmor 710 to its top speed of 105mph. That same 28 EVO now has a GT1200 in it and has seen 118-120mph.
I've also driven a Lavey 2750 cuddy open bow with 1000hp to 100mph, I believe its best speed so far has been 105mph

professor_speed 04-09-2013 06:55 PM

There is a scarab 28 that runs some thing like 120mph
