who does triple digits

what single engine v hull can seriously do over the 100 mark. I have seen the kryptonite do it with 700hp, and of course million dollar outerlimits. But who else can with relative power, gps reality, and wave crushing ability. not an 8' bath tub

chrisf695 03-26-2013 07:22 AM

Well a guy on here named Travis can hit 90mph I believe with a Powerplay XLT-185 with I think is a 428ci with 545-600hp and a alpha SS.

bulletbob 03-26-2013 07:23 AM

Velocity will, Activator I would guess. I would guess there are more.

Attachment 496821 This one in the forground is Will Smith's, from Phantom, lunch run boat. Also a 30, that tickles 100mph. 99.6, last I heard. I wish I had better pics.

BrettM 03-26-2013 10:20 AM

Our 2012 Outerlimits 29SV ran 103 with a Merc HP600sci.

ray pampena 03-26-2013 10:31 AM

it would be cool to see a list of the different hulls with singles that can break 100 and the power they needed to do so.

gary cook 03-26-2013 10:35 AM

do you have a standoff box on the kryptonite? i was wondering how much its needed. my buddy Ron had a 100 mph 29 with 740hp/standoff box/ shortie. id like to do more power in mine at some point (going 93 with 650) and keep wondering if a shortie and or standoff are needed

ridefast77 03-26-2013 10:53 AM

i think i could get my 30 sonic w/ a single 700HP 540 to hit/break 100mph, if i turned up the boost in my truck. but i dont think it would be to safe going that fast with it on the trailer down the road :lolhit:

Ballzyr1 03-26-2013 03:44 PM

My 30' Checkmate sneaks in. :)

grapeape 03-26-2013 05:00 PM

260 velocity best of 113 on radar gun and gps. This vid was on a flat water day.....105 http://youtu.be/O1Jxvh20Y14

chris@uga 03-26-2013 05:14 PM

The TUFF 21 ran 102mph with a 300x outboard.

Their TUFF 28 ran 95 with a stock 525 and no setup so it would obviously run over 100 with a 600 or 700.

I believe there is a link on here with a Howard 28 at 128mph, but I can't seem to find it.

launchpad475 03-26-2013 07:45 PM

There are 2 or 3 28' Nordic Heats doing 100 and change, takes north of 1000HP to do it.

I thought so too. Teague was driving right?

Bowtiepower00 03-26-2013 08:09 PM

Pretty sure there's at least one Superboat Y2K up there, not sure on exact HP, I'm thinking 850+ though...

Standoff box makes it worse, weve set up 4 27s and 29s. Right on the transom is the way to go. Shortie, maybe. I have all the measurements from the ones weve rigged. With/without the box is a night/day difference...they handle SO much better without it.

Forgot to mention a 26 Checkmate ZT260 with one of our 1100s in it going 113 :)

launchpad475 03-26-2013 08:21 PM

Worse how just out of curiosity?

I have a box on my heat, and from the research I've done it does nothing. I'm considering removing it.

Sorry for the thread creep-

abones 03-26-2013 08:23 PM

When I was living in the metro Detroit area 25 years ago I remember some guy from the downriver area in a 23FT Checkmate single I/O running by me like I was dragging and anchor, and I was running 98 MPH on my Norskog Calibrated speedo in my 25 Checkmate blown NOS injected 468 motor! Never found out who he was but had to be going 120 or better. I would never have believed it I it didn't happen to me first hand. Always wanted to know WTF he was running for a set up!! never seen him again.

launchpad475 03-26-2013 08:24 PM

One of my fav vid's. TT Nordic rage at 114-

fantastixvoyage 03-26-2013 08:29 PM

I believe Eddie Young had my phantom back in the day and it ran about 100 with one of his blower motors. Its a '94 VERY heavy 29, standard vee. Been toying with the idea of blower motor and breaking 100 again. The ride is unreal for a 29 but is also so well balanced it runs a good number for being so heavy.

speeddemon651 03-26-2013 08:31 PM

I've seen Matt Brownie of Brownie racing engines run 118 MPH on radar in his Velocity 240 at the Tim's 2 radar run on the Potomac river in 2012. The boat had a blown 540, bravo drive with imco internals.

speeddemon651 03-26-2013 08:38 PM

I think the fastest single engine v-bottom stern drive is the Howard 28 Bullet @ 122 mph, I might be wrong.

With the 29s, the swim platform prevents you from getting the drive high enough to make the boat handle right. Remember, the farther back the drive is mounted, the higher it needs to be. I drove a 29 to 110 with this setup, scariest thing ive ever done. The 29 with it right on the transom on the other hand, its at 105 with one hand on the wheel and no tab in the water. Once the one with the box got upset, there was no correcting it.

I think I solved your 25yr old mystery. This was probably the boat, crazy fast!

Checkmate vision 22' ran 131.62 mph! Not bad for 1990 and the fastest single engine v hull I've heard about.

Wow! Thats pretty damn fast for a 22' boat. I would have to install a porta potty to puke in then clean out the pants after that ride. :poopoo:

That thing was sitting on the prop as it KICKED MY A$$, Imagine going close to 100MPH and somebody in a 22ft blowing by you as if you were trolling in a fishing tournament!! I guess I was lucky in one respect to have seen that thing run!! Flat out amazing for the Time!!! As someone said on that forum link " Can you imagine what he would be running if he was doing it today"

scarabman 03-27-2013 05:55 AM
