figure this one out...what is the problem???
everytime my wife plugs the hair dryer into the bathroom plug a breaker trips.
what's the problem??? name the problem. |
IS SHE A BLONDE.??
:D :p ;) |
Do you have a 15a breaker with a 1700w hair dryer?
Tbonepmp-;) ;) |
Sounds like a weak breaker
|
now she is..well this week!
|
just a clue.......you have to name the problem prior to solving it.
|
Is the hair dryer sitting in a sink full of water when she plugs it in?
|
Some more info required.
Does it happen right when she plugs it in or while using the dryer?
Is it a ground fault outlet or ground fault breaker in the panel. How old is the home and has there been recent renovation that involved electrical work? Does it happen if you plug anything else into outlet. Initially I would look at faulty hair dryer or outlet. If you change the oulet be sure it is a ground fault outlet. Actually it is code required. Any outlet within 6ft of a sink, tub shall be GFCI. Paul |
we had this on our last "spec house" the electrician tied about 4 plugs to that circuit all over the house. It end in the bath with the ground fault outlet. they are touchy.
our problem, we had our deep freeze in the basement plugged in. IT WAS ON THAT CIRCUIT. only knew when the ciruit was tripped when we let the dog out and the outside light (ON THAT CIRCUIT) wouldn't turn on!!! see what else goes out when this trips. new house now. dedicated circuit breaker for the freezer. so my advice.... get a new house, interest rates are low:D that will fix it. just kidding. unplug some stuff, or replace that ground fault circuit with another new one. like I said, they can be touchy. they are suppose to be. |
paul...i just want to know what the problem is...this is the first thing a prof. asked in the 10 mins of class on day one...funny, that blew a hour or two with engineers fighting!!!LOL
|
I also agree with checking for a weak breaker.
Answer to problem. Arc Fault? |
i did get a new house...the damn computer in the heat/ac went...then the computer for the sprinkler system...**** the old house was a lot cheaper to fix!!!
|
AHHHH. Ok, were are all the electrical engineers?
Or how about a physicist? |
HELL ..IT SOUND LIKE SHE NEEDS TO UNPLUG THE CURLING IRON,
AND THE HOT ROLLERS, BEFORE SHE PLUGS IN THE HAIR DRYER... NOT ENOUGHT INFO FOR ME TO GIVE YOU AN ANSWER.. SO WHATS THE ANSWER TO YOUR TRICK QUESTION.....? |
The PROBLEM is the breaker trips!
|
problem: overloaded circut
solution: shave the wifes head:D |
it's not a trick!...has NOTHING to do with being any type of engineer...it's just the first step of troubleshooting any problem...name what the problem is.
actually the wife has done that before....before me! |
The problem is the hair dryer is turned on when she plugs it into the outlet and this creates a larger surge than would occur if she plugged it in with the switch off.
Tell her to plug it in with the switch off and then turn it on. |
I'm telling ya, the PROBLEM is that the breaker trips. That is the PROBLEM. Now that we know the PROBLEM, let's start troubleshooting WHY the breaker is tripping.
|
PROBLEM:
everytime YOUR wife plugs the hair dryer into the bathroom plug a breaker trips. ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION.. |
The problem is she should be plugging the hair dryer into AN ELECTRICAL OUTLET & NOT INTO A BATHROOM PLUG!
What is a bathroom plug anyway? Ron |
The Problem is:
Someone went and wet the womans hair and now she has to dry it. The Real problem is: The breaker keeps tripping and she is *****ing at you for it. :D |
Or on another front the WIFE is the problem.

Audacity,
What class are you taking, marriage 101 The first problem you have is that you are married :D |
Uh-oh, now I am going to overthink the situation. Well, the PROBLEM is still that the breaker trips. But the next step would be finding the circumstances. Like you said, day or night, storm, dryer on or just plugging in, anything else plugged in, etc.
|
