Hi WildThing,
No kidding. The photographers on the media boat told me that Peter Moorkins (he took that photo) was the only photographer who didn't scream and duck.
Peter took this shot too:

Hey Bep, Yes, I have backup of the raw footage. I'll pull some clips from the archives and post it. Janet

Malta - 2011 coverage

Test lap narrated by Nigel:

(in 4-5 footers)

Both days were very rough but Sunday was rougher ...
Boat log notes: Saturday lost control of the starboard tab in lap 2 and then the port trim tab motor broke loose and tore off the cables in the back.
Sunday in lap l, the odds and ends hatch popped open, lap 3 lost reading of both torque sensors, in lap 4 lost water pressure on left side (due to bent motor mounts and cracked engine block), in lap 5 drive shaft problems (a sensor knocked loose and lost oil out of the drive line).

The TV program review for both races in Malta:

Thanks. Never have been able to find any footage. I was a safety boat for the OGP. Imagine standing there in 8 foot swells in a 22ft single outboard for hours... Not Pretty.

I was amazed on how well the Furnibo fountain was piercing the waves. She seemed to be balanced perfectly for that setup. What size exactly is the Furnibo fountain? As it looked tiny next to the Silverhook!

Hi BEP078,
Yes, SilverHook is a longer boat and the bustle adds to the affect. I can tell you are a Fountain fan and agree that Frank and Pierre raced the crap out of that boat and Nico did a great job on the setup.

Keep in mind the Fountain hulls have changed very little and the factory has spent countless hours dialing in that particular hull. Fountain knows exactly how to eek every little bit of speed out of their boat.

SilverHook is a completely new hull design which handles the rough water (similar to OL), but carves through the corners because it has curved chines as opposed to flat chines. Most of the SilverHook surfaces are curved [like in nature].

We shipped her to Malta with a few hours of testing and SilverHook was clearly faster than the Fountain hull design which has thousands of hours of testing.

That race in Malta was SilverHook's very first race. Nigel and Michael walked away from both Searex (first out of the turn) and the Fountain (second out of the turn).

What I'm trying to say is the speeds for a Fountain hull are a known number and that SilverHook is just getting started.

Janet

BTW The Fountain speed record was set by a 42' Fountain (not the 47' Cat Killer) with mega horsepower and it was built extremely light for speed (not endurance). I don't think that particular Fountain would have made it through more than 2 laps in that rough Malta race.
