The only way to answer the question is to compare boats with the same mercury engines, then there is no argument. How fast with 700 and how fast with 1075. From my experience OL is a little faster than the Fountain, Skaters can't go that fast the seem to chin walk bad at high speeds.

Actually it's very simple question and an even more simple answer. "fastest stepped bottom design????" was the question. Record stands that Fountain ran the fastest recorded speed. There's really no argument until OL (or anyone else) steps up and beats the record.

I'm personally not a Fountain fan. Many things about them I do not care for and I'd rather run an OL over a Fountain all day long (no offense to the Fountain guys). But there really is absolutely no argument. The record stands. "should'a would'a could'a" don't mean sh!t. Beat the record...Make the claim. Very simple.

If you want to get technical, the question explicitly asks

Would be very interesting if fountain started building boats again and give OL a run for their money. Kind of like skater and MTI.

I have read in various articles that Skater designed the bottoms of Cig 46, Various Fountains and OL. So I would think that Skater has the knowledge to build the fastest VEE BOTTOM.

In 07 Cig, Skater, Mercury and TNT Marine teamed up and built the 46" It ran 172 mph and Bud Lorow told me personally " The boat did 172 we still had more throttle but being afraid someone would get killed we stopped".

Skater has never had anything to do with Outerlimits.

I totally agree with you actually. I criticized fountain while he would run these campaigns and disagreed with his advertising campaign. However, the record stands.

I think if Peter/skater actually cared they could give OL some good competition in the fastest vee bottom arena but I do believe right this second, OL is building the fastest step bottom Vees. I'd just like to see them beat the record once and for all to make it official. I know records are kindve foolish but then again theyre the benchmark to base your claims on. Easy to say you're the fastest when you hold the record.
