That is heresay. Like i said before. Reggie traded his company for a 1 off purpose built speed record boat. Mike Fiore focused on his company and quality products and therefore is still in business. This debate is fun. Think about this logically (almost ironically). Reggie Fountain did a lot for the industry. Unfortunatley, the 42 was really his last creation to date. So far, at least known to the public he has not and does not plan to release anymore masterpieces. Fiore picked up where Reggie left off and he continues to push the limits of high performance v-bottom. It's timing. And damn good timing if you ask me cause we're all going to get the benefit of having talent like Reggie and Fiore for a long time!! Naturally Fiore is going to break the record, he's relativley young and open minded putting a lot of R&D into his hulls ( and has the resources to do it). Fortunatley, he's focusing on getting his business to a certain level before attempting the record.

this is a stupid statement and just crap

Reggie Fountain built a company that was capable of building the numerous boats that he was selling each year and he had to meet that demand or watch those that were selling his boats turn to someone else and stop carrying his product

he was selling a ton of boats in a ton of different styles for many different purposes all over the USA

when it all fell apart because of the economy he could have walked out to the plant and told 75% or 85% f his employees to hit the door and don't look back because they were being let go and would almost surely never be brought back or he could choose to try and ride it out and keep as many as possible employed as long as possible and see if things could turn around and stabilize

just like with any business you can either stay small, be a niche player, and possibly still face the fact one day that you are not selling enough boats to meet the cost of facilities and employees for production (shout out to Pantera and many others) or you can try and grow a company and a business, keep your product affordable for more people through economies of scale and if you face a slowdown in demand hope it is not so large that it wrecks those economies of scale and everything else along with it

Genmar (certainly not a company that made any sacrifice for a performance record) Champion, VIP, half or more of the brands Brunswick now holds.....not a company in the mix that "sacrificed a company for a one off boat" and yet all of them and many more that were major boat builders went under and some did it a few times

and yes I have seen where Reggie Fountain has personally stated that if he had held some money back it may have helped carry the company through, but it was an amount well above the cost of building and racing a single boat or even a few boats so again your statement is just ignorant and the reality is even the amount of money he mentioned probably only would have carried him for a year or two longer and the other reality is he and his company were built on racing boats and building the fastest boats that could go out and perform all the time every time so who knows where his company would have been if he had decided to cut back on that and go after the go kinda fast on the lake crowd

he built a major company with a very large facility employing a large number of people that required a large amount of sales to keep it going at that level....when that fell off just like with all companies at that level it is difficult to just cut back to a sustainable level especially if you have personal involvement and attachment to the people and product

and as for the outerlimits competing the competition was set up, both boats had the same engines and props and one went out there and set a record and the other slithered off in the night like a ****ing ***** claiming mechanical troubles even though there were probably 20 people right around there that would have tossed in a hand (or even equipment if available) to get the boat going to make the run.....but instead they ran off scared after stating on camera they were the fastest boat and would always be the fastest boat.....who in the hell would have respect for THAT besides you

if you want to build a kind of fast boat that is pretty then stick to doing that....if you want to run your mouth that you are the fastest and then run away scared then expect to get called out for it when you are supposedly building PERFORMANCE boats instead of pleasure boats

Show me. Please. I watched the 29 being built for over a year. I would love to see that. Until then it's hearsay.

What about this 42 that rolled? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SyKBOv9UYzQ

We can go back and forth all day talking about individual case by case basis. No point arguing one off events.

EXACTLY! And why do people talk and act like Fountain was a fly by night company??? Reggie was building Bada$$ boats before most of these companies CEO's were out of grade school. Yes OL has some awesome boats, yes so does Skater, Hell there are lots of fast hulls; but come on people "fanboys" show some intelligence and admit Reggie is a legend and Fountains are the WORLDS FASTEST BOATS!!!

"we will always be the worlds fastest Vbottom AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO UP THE MARK"

so here we are almost 10 years later and they never were the fastest Vbottom and they have not continued to up the mark

the question was not who builds a 52 foot Vbottom that few people will want to buy that goes 26 miles per hour slower than the worlds fastest Vbottom went almost 10 years ago

the question was who builds the worlds fastest Vbottom.....and no it was not even who talks about they could do it if they wanted to or if they bothered to try or if they bothered to race when there is a race to be run or even what they will do in the future (but never bothered to do after saying they would).....it was who actually has bothered to do it

who in the hell "gets scared" by talk that is never backed up

Cig & Skater ran 172 on the 46.

Did you just cite a promotional video? Didn't Reggie bring that same boat to a POKER RUN and say he beat all the fastest boats out there? And there were only a few cats ( no one running hard ). And Reggie was up in the helicopter? I'm not knocking Reggie. Like I said before its perfect timing. Reggie closed shopped and now Fiore is keeping innovation going. Can that really be argued? Fiore saw there was no money in racing, which there isn't. Hence why Outerlimits is still in business. At the end of the day, his sales ain't changing if he grabs the speed record or not. So what's the benefit? Ego? Ego's kill businesses. Pound for pound, OL is the fastest boat. Maybe not all time fastest, but pound for pound. By the way, didn't someone say the skater didn't crack? Than can someone explain why there's two huge patches on it from the factory?

Fastest pleasure boat vee bottom still being built ok, but Skater had the fastest Vee raceboat pound for pound...which was proven on the race course...Reggie cried and they weighed her down, as SVL Warlock already said.
As for the Skater breaking...they've ALL broken. Ol, Skater, Fountain....hell even Kryptonite :)

One way pass right?

Fountain ran 177 and change one way

Both are moving for sure but 5mph difference

wow

You sure do like mentioning that fountain "CLOSED SHOP". Is this the only defense that you have? Yes fountain is closed, yes I'm sure Reggie wishes things went different, but the fact is that he still holds every record for Veebottom boats. Fountain has won everything there is to win, and only a blind idiot will say that Fountains are not great boats. Fountain was doing things with boats 10 years ago that everyone else wishes they could do today. OL might not be concerned about world records but that was a great advertising campain for fountain. Oh and like previously stated how many people are gonna buy a 52ft OL??? If you can afford one that does 134mph then why not buy a bada$$ MTI that does 180?
