Default Is it worth 10k more w/ warranty?

doing a project boat 90, 35 fountain bravo.... bought it with no power, have a pair of 7.4 400hr 330 hp mercruisers in the garage, was going to do a freshen ( pistons, rings, bearings, oil pump, timing chain, valves, springs, have everything re-surfaced)

or found a pair of NOS ( new old stock ) 454 mag mpi 385 hp drop ins.....but I figure I will have about 10 k more in the new motors by the time i sell the old stuff off, so the question is with new power and a 1 year merc. warranty is the boat going to bring 10-12k more?

35 k freshened 454
45k new mag mpi with warranty

triple axle trailer ( steel) boat is a 8 on a 10 scale, exterior perfect, dash is up dated with monster gauges, interior is not perfect, but not bad either

with 454's that boat probably is going to be a 62 maybe 65mph boat, and I cant see it being a huge sell, probably actually worth less.

One thing to remember is when you redo a boat, car, home, just because you add 10k in parts doesnt necessarily mean 10k in value.

Also you may want to look at the market people are pulling mid 90s like 94,95, 96 for 35 grandish, closer to 45-50 your probably looking at later 90s

Personally if I were to price that boat or be interested in buying it would need 502s or better and probably would look at spending 35 maybe 38 for it.

Good luck.

i guess i should been more specific.... if you are looking at two identical boats, one has " freshened " power from a local shop... the other has factory reman's from mercury with a 1 year warranty, how much more is the warranty worth?

Will Merc honor the warranty if a Merc authorized mechanic doesn't do the install?

Good question, I am not sure, however the shop is merc certified, so that variable should be eliminated

Is it worth 10k more with a 1yr warranty?

IMO- No, a 90's boat would not pull a 25-30% premium for having the engine warranty. If two boats were close in condition, power, and price then the warranty could be the deal maker.

I agree, on a 90s boat neither side of the arguement is going to get me to be a buyer unless two boats are equal in price condition everything. then there is the issue of transferring the warranty.

Either way Im not so sure it adds value as much as potential sell-ability.
