OSO Tech is continuing to address bugs and concerns over changes from the upgrade

Hi everyone,

We've had an eventful couple of days, with the new software that was announced earlier this week being implemented yesterday.

We continue to address any and all issues reported in the tech thread:

http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/t...es-thread.html

And we request that you keep reporting new issues there, in as much detail as you can (so that our technicians know exactly what to do) if/as you find them.

As to some of the aesthetic changes, we are going to work to bring the "look" of the forums closer to what the previous software used to look like, as far as background colors, fonts/text sizes, etc. This will take a bit of time. It will not look exactly the same. Ultimately it will be better. The site is different, and allows us to do some new things for the community that could simply not be done earlier.

Part of this is just getting adjusted to some new layout, where to find the things you always have used, etc. If you have any questions, feel free to ask Speedgirl and her crew. You'll find that everything is still here, and more.

A major reason for this upgrade is that now we can display a new mobile version of OSO for those who choose to browse on smartphones and tablets. It's a major improvement in an area that has become more important in recent years and will become even moreso in the months and years to come.

Bottom line: yes, the site is different, but we are not done with this upgrade. We're acting on every lead we get from you, and working hard to address any specific concerns that we can.

Thanks for all your reports, and we appreciate your patience as we continue to roll out the new site.

Paul

I used to log in , click on user control panel and see my few choice forums . Now it takes me 5 min just to find my forums .. Is there a forum favorite someware ?

IBcash 05-20-2013 03:23 PM

Thank you for the report OCCJoe . When you say "choice forums", do you mean your subscribed threads?

To view your subscribed threads:
1. Click on your username or My Profile
2. Under My Activity you will see a tab that says "Subscriptions".

Alternatively:
1. Click on "Quick Links" drop down menu.
2. Select "Subscribed Threads".

If what you are looking for is "My Recent Topics" you can find it right next to the "Quick Links" tab on the navigation bar at the top of the page.

Please let us know if this is not what you were referring to. Thank you.

pstorti 05-20-2013 04:04 PM

not a problem but I think the white background and smaller text makes the site harder to read, maybe you can put back some of the colors and text sizes

IBcash 05-20-2013 04:54 PM

Thank you pstorti . Our tech team is working on that :)

twinscrews 05-21-2013 12:00 PM

Just change it back

97FASTech 05-21-2013 12:40 PM

Posted in another thread about "My recent Topics."

It looks as if they fixed the major bug. However now when I use my recent topics from yesterday or last week, it shows all my threads that I started, not what I posted in.

Getting there!!!!

SkaterMike82 05-21-2013 12:47 PM

Go back to how it was....This isn't user freindly at all....Everyone hates it

IBobi 05-21-2013 08:20 PM

First off, thank you for your patience and for reporting these issues.

Tech has been working on the tablet/smartphone display/button issues. Some of them have been fixed; give ti another try!

As to the overall new mobile experience, we have NOT YET turned on the new mobile skin (that's why it's not better yet). Please stand by and we should have the new mobile experience ready soon!

You guys probably know this, but display ads in posts are forcing hard-right justification of text.

pstorti 05-22-2013 06:13 AM

Don't mind all the complainers on here you would think this was a website for 80 year old boaters with all the *****ing! Everybody is always resistant to change but I sure once all the bugs are sorted out people will get used to it and it will be better overall.

glassdave 05-22-2013 09:03 AM

this is probably nit pickin but my issue is visual, doesnt seem as appealing as before. now maybe thats because we first resist change but i would kinda like to see the thread topic/title in a larger font then started by and date below them. When they appear bolder(have new content) they are much easier to see and separate out visually. Just my $.02

502ss 05-22-2013 06:50 PM

Just noticed today that on the iPad when the page loads it takes you all the way to the bottom of the page. It wasn't doing this yesterday

What does 80 year olds on here have to do with *****ing? Absolutely nothing, as long as you are a paying member on here, you have the same say as anyone else on here and age has nothing to do with it. Some of us senior citizens may not be computer savy and it takes us much longer to learn something new. I wish that they would have told everyone that they are changing the formate and have instructions on how to navigate it and what each symbol means.

glassdave, I am hoping you can answer a question or two for me. I am trying to edit my husbands ad and it won't let me log on most of the time, but if it does, it won't let me access the ad!! Also, do you have a contact number for OSO?? I email them and they keep sending me the username and password! Any ideas would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Alison

Is the ad in the classifieds?

You may want to clear your safari cache; sounds like you could have a cookie or something. If it's still happening, clear cache & try again.

I agree, 100%. This new format sucks.

To be picky the visual is terrible.. You guys had a nice site. Some enhancements would have been
nice. Total site reconstruction may have been a bad move.

Sydwayz 05-28-2013 01:02 PM

It's not a bug, but it would be nice if...,

When you click into the "search here..." box in the upper left hand corner; under the masthead...

That the box automatically clears out the characters [search here...]

Typical operations of that HTML function on other websites work as described above; when you click on the box to enter content, the box empties first.
As it is now, you have to highlight all of the [search here...] text and delete it before you can input what you want to search for.

FYI, I am using Chrome and Firefox.

Don't you see an X on the far right of the box to clear the box?

Negatory

Sydwayz 05-28-2013 02:19 PM

I do have the White X to clear the box when using IE, but not Chrome or Firefox.

I'm going to call that a bug & report it. Not great site behavior.

fixed :)

Another thing:

With the demographic and computer literacy of some of the members here; I think some of the members are missing the fact that there are actually links embedded in posts; with the fact that the HMTL title defaults to what appears in a post. I tend to think that when it defaulted to showing the HTTP://www.blah.blah.blah; that is was MUCH more apparent that a link was in the text they were reading; where they can click for more info.

Can we switch back, at least for a while; or make it default to show both the HTTP and HMTL in the posts?

IBobi 05-29-2013 08:42 PM

Can you show me an example of the other kind?

2013 Chevy Cars, Trucks, SUVs, Crossovers and Vans | Chevrolet

When I post in this link w ww.chevrolet.com ; it shows up like above (without the space.)
With the NEW site, when you post a link, it grabs the HTML title off of the webpage automatically and THAT is what shows in the post. That's why it doesn't look like a link. Sometimes, it just looks like another sentence or words in the post.

http://www.chevrolet.co m (without the space) blatenly shows you that there's a link there. This is the URL which clearly looks like a link.

With all of the new ads, and the test/font blending just ever so slightly between the standard black, and the standard just lighter blue showing a link...
...link's just are not as obvious.

Even making links show up in Red and/or Bold would help. The black vs. blue hardly is noticeable.

If this happens again please let us know; should be resolved.

1. You get this when you do what? (step by step to reproduce, please)
2. What's your browser & version#?

commandersander 05-30-2013 07:56 PM

Still can't reply to thread unless in quick reply. iPad 2.

Also, before the upgrade, I was able to view attached images in order by hitting next, or just one. If I had my fill, I could touch away from the image and it would take me back to the thread without force closing the image window. This was a very nice feature that I didn't appreciate until it went away.

Thanks for fixing my name, the font, and the background color. My " I hate it" is turning the corner.....towards o.k.....it is what it is. I'm not 80, and I'm not *****ing. You have been stellar in your task and continue to impress with your updates.

Last, my boat list runs into the text area out of the member info/sig box
