Jeezus, Is it possible for a single towing thread on this effing site to stay on topic? Mild Thunder posts what was an informative, heads up thread about double checking the weight of your rig, just to be safe, and it turns in to yet another $h!tstorm. And, to top it all off, we get to see yet another thread turn into a beak discussion...
I think (most) of us can agree that factory tow ratings are pretty much BS. That doesn't change the fact that many (I'd guess the majority?) of boat owners on here are towing over their rated capacities. Even most of the Diesel owners, I would venture to guess. Sydwayz brings up a great point, I always see guys claiming the maximum (5th wheel or, in some cases, WD) trailer rating on their rigs, when the vast majority of them are using non-WD bumper pull hitches, which are ALWAYS rated much lower. I agree with both sides here, I have towed WAY more than my vehicles are rated for, on more than one occasion, and did it relatively safely. This includes my time as a CDL driver in just about every size of rig imaginable. Luckily, I never had an incident or accident. This doesn't change the fact that in today's sue happy society you are really putting yourself at extreme unnecessary risk by towing an illegal, overweight load. I can guarantee that god forbid, you have a blowout or mechanical failure that results in an accident while towing overweight you are going to be involved in a lawsuit. People see a Boat and they see $$$$, period. Even if the wreck was another driver's fault, you are going to end up being the one at fault if you're overweight. Even worse, what if your actions result in the death of an innocent motorist? It's not worth it. Now that I've got the seriousness outta the way, You will be fine with any size and weight of boat if the towrig is a Dually... :stooges: :evilb: |

Only and hour and a half left in the day, and I get to read the stupidest thing I have seen on the web today. Way to slip that in at the last minute. You guys in your little gay cult do take boats talk on the internet pretty serious huh? You can poke fun, or make serious false claims against everything else but when someone calmly bites back you revert to personal insults? That is beyond mature bro, and just shows how little you really are. Go back down in your cabin, heat up the lube in your microwave, and slide that AT sex toy back inside you so you can sleep tonight. And we know, it says 6 inches on it, but it is really 2 in he's bigger than the others on the market. Congrats on taking the whole thing in true cult fashion Funny how you can insult someone, and then get all insulted back and yell and scream for the refs when they respond in kind. That is the basis behind calling you a moron...the whole part about you acting moronically. Dan...your personal vendetta against AT is probably best kept to yourself if you want a ride this summer. Joe...you are a good friend, thanks for the advice on the scale, which is all I really asked for in this thread. |
Well this certainly has been entertaining.. I agree, the ratings by manufacturers are hard to understand. That said, what was being using to haul boats like ours 20 or even 10 years ago?
Second, most of us probably do tow over the ratings of our trucks with no issues, but in todays litigious society, towing over the rating is just one more reason for your insurance company to reject your claim and one more reason to be sued. Ill pass on that.. |
