looked like the house boat was having "issues" turning around! might have had current and kept backing up to get front around and kept hitting rafts and boats on the shore!!

that's nuts!!

Dave M 05-27-2013 03:18 PM

That's why I stay away from mob scenes like that.

look again,,the back of the boat looked like it swiped some boats on shore.then he backed into one on shore.. too fast for conditions..

I don`t see how he`s a moron, thats a HUGE boat in a tight, crowded channel with a current and or wind.
That aint no 18`Donzi buddy:poopoo:

I was thinking of Rodney Dangerfield in Caddyshack driving the Striker Sportfish!................"hey you scratched my anchor!"

Probably a tourist in a houseboat who was in way over their head in that tight channel.

MILD THUNDER 05-27-2013 08:03 PM

He backed up into that red boat and pushed it up the beach about 5ft!!! No way I would have tried to navigate that area with that large of a craft. Even a experienced captain can get into trouble if there was any current/wind to deal with. Looks to me like someone just "HAD" to get to that raft up to be in the scene. Drive it like a Rental he did!!!

Uh...either way he is a moron...there was no need for that much speed/thrust.

You don't own a boat, do you? Maybe, just maybe, he shouldn't have been there in the first place.

+1. He was on the gas hard.. you can see the thrust he time he goes forward.. bad situation.. he was going to hit something regardless.. Moron comes in how hard he hit everything.

single engine? wind and/or current and thats what happens.....dude needs to hang tires off the side like a tug boat! ha

chaparral2300 05-27-2013 08:52 PM

Wonder, just wonder why kevin or someone didnt deploy an anchor when all else was failing. I personally would be deploying anything but the wife to stop my boat from a smacking into a stone wall.

Fenderjack 05-27-2013 08:57 PM

Seems like to many drunk people in one place for me.

look on the back of the boat,,oh never mind he peeled off the lettering on the 5 boats and the one he shoved on to shore when he was going too fast through that channel...lol...All bs aside i have been through that channel several times with 30 + foot boats and their is no real strong current that i have ever experience but that is one hell of a blow boat

LubeJobs42 05-27-2013 11:40 PM

Maybe he has crash boxes! That looks how Larry Goldman use to dock my boat!

You are scaring me Gino... lol I thought
Larry was a crashbox guru lol

MonkeySea2 05-28-2013 10:41 AM

Reminds me of a time years ago when the wife and I were anchored in a crowded cove. A very large Sedan Bridge, operated by an old timer lost power and was heading right at us! I was racing to pull up my anchor before he slammed us. We managed to get out of the way seconds before he ran us over!! Very scary moments!!!

Lofty 05-28-2013 12:10 PM

Trying to navagate anything through the channel at Havasu on a busy weekend is a challenge, but a houseboat?!?!? Well at least he never made it to the Bridge. A perfect example of why I dont bother hauling 8 hours into the middle of the desert to that lake.

Boobs, booze, boneheads and boombox's, not that I don't appreciate it but just not in that quantity. When you can count more tats than teeth you know you're in trouble.

Level III Chaos 05-28-2013 12:13 PM

The channel used to be limited to 35' boats max I thought.....and houseboats not allowed. When did that change?

That was Larry's Business Development program; to keep his painter employed. :D (just kidding)

Reminds me of the year at the Shootout at LOTO back when it was still in front of Shooters 21 when the Celebration (big cruise boat) got hung up on a bouy and about landed in our laps on the front spectator line.

Jupiter Sunsation 05-28-2013 01:34 PM

Said alcohol wasn't an issue!

Lake Havasu City police arrested a California man allegedly responsible for a house boat fiasco that occurred late Saturday afternoon in Bridgewater Channel.

Lake Havasu City Police Department spokesman Sgt. Troy Stirling said the incident was reported at 3:43 p.m. Saturday after a boat operator reportedly entered the south end of Bridgewater Channel with a rented 65-foot houseboat and lost control of the vessel.

“The guy started coming into the south end of the Channel when there were some big gusts of wind,” Stirling said. “It was too late. He didn’t have a chance to turn around because there were so many boats, it was really congested.”

The houseboat ended up sideways across the waterway’s travel lanes and clipped several boats on both the east and west banks. In all, about five boats suffered minor gel coat-type damage.

“That boat was so long, once it was turned around police were there getting him out of the Channel,” Stirling said. “(Authorities) were trying to stop him but the guy wasn’t stopping.”

Travelling at a slow pace, the boat operator continued until police boarded the vessel and shut it down.”

The boat operator, 36-year-old Donald Jackson, of Whittier, Calif., reportedly told police he didn’t stop because he thought police were escorting him and the houseboat from the Channel.

In the end, Jackson was arrested for alleged reckless operation of a watercraft. Investigations determined alcohol wasn’t a contributing factor. No injuries were reported in association to the call.

“I’m very happy to say it didn’t turn out worse than it did,” Stirling said. “We had people beginning to try to stop it by pushing it, but you can’t stop a houseboat.”

In the end, the houseboat was towed back to Nautical Beachfront Resort with reports of a compromised hydraulic steering system, as a result of the incident, and is now unable to make right turns.

Jackson has multiple years of boating experience but just not on a large boat such as the houseboat, Stirling said.

“He did a pretty darn good job controlling it, but unfortunately he just shouldn’t have been there,” he said.

It is unlawful to operate a houseboat of that size in the Channel, and beneath London Bridge, without a captain’s license. Jackson isn’t a licensed captain, police said.

Calls to Nautical Beachfront Resort’s water sports center to inquire about rental policies, liability and estimated damage to the vessel weren’t immediately returned.

Waterway authorities of Lake Havasu City Police Department, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and Mohave County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident.

Gino,

You totally missed your chance with this thread.......You could have started by saying you took a vacation to Havasu to relax on your new houseboat! :D

cfischer 05-29-2013 12:18 AM

guys a idiot but nothing worse then a bunch of people on your boat shouting orders especially a bunch of chicks. they were easily 100yds and yelling at their captain to take off. really???

tomtbone1993 05-29-2013 12:22 AM

You can tell by the trees on the second video that it is windy. Thats a big boat not saying he is not at fault. But he did have his hands full.....

Randy Nielsen 05-29-2013 01:01 AM

I have been there twice & the channel can get cluttered pretty quick with all of the traffic but that is like threading a needle with a Mack truck!! Randy

JasonSmith 05-29-2013 07:08 AM

I regularly pilot a 90' houseboat & if there is any wind whatsoever you really need to be ready for a ride. These things only draft 3' and have a ever so slight v to their bottom. Most of the rentals only have one engine & a jet drive making it even more rediclious to operate.
That guy was in way over his head & the people yelling at him were even more clueless.
