Written for boats.com, Catching Up With Reggie Fountain.
It had been awhile since I'd spoken with Mr. Fountain and it was, as always, a pleasure.

Nice Article Matt!
I have always idolized Reggie Fountain for what he has done for Powerboat Racing and building a great performance boat. I consider him to be a living legend in the Offshore Powerboating community. There is only one other person who I idolize even more and that is Ken Warby. Mr. Fountain deserves our respect and no matter what you may think about him, treat him with the utmost respect that he deserves like I do. BTW I don't own a Fountain and never have, I wish Mr. Fountain all the best and a thank you for what he has done for Offshore Powerboat Racing.

+1......That was a spot on Reggie article. I think his boat building days are over though. Age 73, significant real estate holdings that "pay the bills, " noting dwindling market (less than 25% of what it was) and no desire to invest his own money building boats (noted if an investor came along then he would build boats) pretty much outlines he is done.
Champion racer, built a billion dollars in boats and had a good time doing it.......I think he has done it all and should enjoy his life!

Awesome article! I still remember the first time I met Reggie at the Chicago Boat Show. I was so nervous, I didn't want to bother him and ask for his autograph. My wife grabbed the brochure from my hand, went right up and started talking to him. He was so nice to both of us (we were brand new Fountain owners at the time)...a true gentleman and a saleman to the core. It was a real pleasure having him at each of the Chicago Poker Runs, as well as a few of the Chicago Powerboat Club events.
Long live the King.

This comment says it all!!
Some people say I was crazy to spend the money I spent on racing,” said Fountain. “We all have different things we care about. How much money I made and put aside in the boat business never mattered to me.
