I know Gary's 280 with 1000+ hp would pick up a few mph with the hatch cracked. He made a tether to hold it down. He would open it a few inches. My VR 1 ran 2 mph faster and didn't vapor lock anymore when I installed a scoop. Also make sure your boat has vents on the back of the engine compartment. You cant believe the amount of hot air that comes out at speed. Especially with a blower. You cant have to much air and every 390 I had I added more air intakes and vents on the back. Big difference especially on long poker runs where your running the crap out of it. also try running a left hand prop. I did on my VR 1

I don't have vents on the back so I think the scoop is going to help.

As for steering, I'm running a full imco hydraulic setup from the helm back. It's only a single arm (I know dual is better), but it is working for now till I can add on to it.

Very Cool! Glad to see a plan come together. I have been trying to get my 23 Scarab in the mid 70's to 80 and I'm getting real close. I felt the same way you did! (just not as fast)

I went out today by myself for a little while to run and took some cool gopro videos from the transom.

Here is a picture I took while I'm loading the videos to YouTube.

Thanks guys. I'm really proud of the boat. It was a lot of work, but has been worth every bit so far!

It rolls 800-1400 rpm. I tried tuning some out, but its easy to drive so I left it. Sounds awesome to me.

Here's a gopro video of some high speed runs in the mid-upper 90's. Still learning were it likes to be trimmed. Apparently I wasn't going high enough. I was keeping at neutral, but it likes a little above neutral as I learned yesterday.
