The SW Florida Ft. Meyers/Punta Gorda area gives a lot of bang for the buck but it's not fresh water which was one of your criteria. Pompano Beach in SE florida is another great value in this market. older waterfront homes with Ocean access can be had in the mid $300K range.

For fresh water...take a look at the Palatka/St. Johns river area SW of Jacksonville, Fl. The winters are mild and the population demographics are friendly...great boating area.

Check out Astor fl. St.Johns river, fresh water, big ramp with docks, marina, bars and food. Fish, lily pads, deep water, big springs. Cheap prices. Some fast boats, noise ok. No salt water to mess up your boat!!! South to Sanford or north to jacksonvile or intercoastal waterway. Daytona 50 miles away. Do a google search. Check out web site, nancybrand.com. I have marina lot for sale.

We get a yearly (10 days of) weather in the 90's. rest of summer 70-80. Winters are fairly mild, temps in the 40's most of the time, but we do get our fair share of rain fall (thats why our streams and lakes are so clean and full).

We have a downtown water front area that features concerts and festivals. They sometimes refer to Portland as Bridge City, as we have 9 bridges covering the Willamette River in Portland connecting the West side to the East side.

Hello ICU, St Johns river flows South to North about 160 miles from Sanford to Jacksonvile, fl. Astor ,fl is about 120 miles from the salt water, about 40 miles by highway to the best beachs. I would not use any of my boats in the salt water !!! No need to worry about shallow water. Party with the wild ones at Silver Glen Springs. Or pull up to a bar for a cold one. Has anyone seen the million dollar boats that sit in salt water all around the world, if they can sit in it 24/365 my Fomrula is OK in it, maintenance, you've just got to clean your boat, it's that simple, if you're LAZY you shouldn't boat in salt.
