it gets even more confusing with the 42 in particular, the 98-99 models had the largest steps of any 42, & were available in side by side or staggered , this was when they were experimenting the most with step height & placement, some of the early 97's model year have only 1 large step, in the later model years depending on what power the boat was ordered with would determine step placement, I think we can all agree it is a fast hull for its size , & Reggie tried to squeeze every last MPH out of them
