raystown lake

Hey guys we will be there this weekend , staying at the resort there. If you see a Powerplay come by and say hello. What spots do you guys recommend hanging around?
Thanks

Raystown is my home water – I have a house there but only live 40 miles away anyways. We’re there almost every weekend in the summer and about half the weekends in the winter. The lake is 32 miles long with 112 miles of shore line (lots of coves) and you will be going out of the Resort which is at the upper end. I launch out of Jamescreek (about the middle of the lake) and head down since the water is clearer at the lower end verses the upper end, especially with all the rain… It all depends what you’re looking for when it comes to a place to hang. There is a Party Cove past the island across from Jamescreek which gets pretty wild at times… There is also Coffee Run which is the cove under the second bridge headed down from the resort, it’s a little quieter. Snyder’s Run and the dam are also nice and on the quiet side plus there are two large coves, one on each side of Seven Points with nice clear water. The cove past Seven Points (8 mile marker) has a large no wake zone and also some cliffs that people jump off of.

I typically launch, take a ride to the dam for a while then head to one of the quieter coves to raft up with the group.

There are a couple other members here on Raystown that should chime in.

What size/color PP?

Scag Burner
A 33' with yellow on the back end, purple on sides.
In these coves can you walk around in the water? Also is it a sand bottom?
Thanks

There are a few smaller coves along the main lake with sandy bottoms but most are rock. I never beach my boat but sometimes we do anchor up and tie off to shore, keeping several feet of water under the drives. If you’re going to walk around, you should wear shoes. There is one real nice place just west of the Snyder’s Run boat launch (marker H3) that’s called Pebble Beach since it has nice round pebble stone base. Jamescreek is also good but the bottom will be more of a slate rock. A lot of places, such as the dam area, don’t have any good places to tie to shore since the hills are so steep and the water can drop to 180 plus feet pretty quick.

We are heading to Raystown this weekend from the Pittsburgh Area. There will be about 8 of us. A couple of Bajas fountains checkmate and a couple others. If you see us stop by and say hello.

SVL - Are you in Crestwood?

SVL-WARLOCK 07-16-2013 10:12 PM

Nope. I am in holiday hills. My family owns all the land from parks orchid over. The development that is off to the right at the bottom of the culdasack. I remember the old lake. My dad had like 100 acres up by the resort. Man I live that place.
