Nice job. Great speed

pstorti 07-30-2013 10:16 AM

so I guess those engines being only available to race teams was bs? Nice for a v-bottom, but all the more reason to buy a cat!

44MTI 07-30-2013 10:37 AM

Hmm, I thought these were only available for race boats.

Well, not exactly, but I did address that question (in a polite way of course) to Rick Mackie at Mercury Racing in this offshoreonly article, http://www.offshoreonly.com/articles...ry/power-moves.

For those who don't feel like reading the whole article or may have missed it, here's what he had to say.

“It is a race engine that runs on 112-octane fuel and has no warranty,” he explained. “But once we sell an engine to an OEM (original equipment manufacturer), we can’t control where it goes, but I want to emphasize that the engine has no warranty and is designed for racing on 112-octane fuel. The onus for whatever happens to it is completely on the owner.”

Also from the article:

Why was it originally stated the engine will only be sold to “qualified race teams?” Because as consumer-direct sales go, that was and is the truth. The first production pair of 1650 Race engines was delivered to the Miss GEICO racing team last week. Of course, as Mackie pointed out, that won’t stop OEMs from buying 1650s for the pleasure-boat customers who are either purchasing new boats or repowering existing models.

I thought so, too. (You and I event traded emails about it.) And when I heard otherwise from Outerlimits, I addressed it directly with my Mercury Racing contacts. See above for the responses. Of if you prefer, check out this article, http://www.offshoreonly.com/articles...ry/power-moves.

I went live on April 9 on the offshoreonly.com home page.

The owner is just about to splash it up here in Canada. He is super-pumped and one of the nicest guys around. So we are very excited for him.

Outerlimits is doing amazing things to make some big boats go really fast. They look great too!

Mercury has changed the industry with their QC4V product. Double R clients have a total of ten QC4V motors on order (including this 52 OL) right now between all boat manufacturers. For all the depressing talk we've heard over the last 5 years, that tells us something good is going on.

Did this thing have full cabin/interior at the time of testing?

That's awesome. I hope someone was having cocktails down there on these shake down passes...

If I'm not mistaken this is the first V-bottom—period—to be outfitted with 1650s.

pstorti 08-02-2013 05:08 PM

Beautiful boat - Congrat's to the new owner and everyone involved.....there has been a lot of serious hardware running up Hwy 11 lately, passed 2 other yellow/orange OL heading north towards Muskoka around noon.

I have to say though, it's hard to imagine the video conditions of Lake Simcoe being considered "lumpy" in a 52'er
