Pole Barns in CNY??

Finally getting ready to put the toy box up after 4 years, anyone have experience with RLS builders?

Planing on a 40x60 with 12' height on the side walls, 2 12'w x 10'h overhead doors on the 40' gable

Thanks in advance!

I considered them for the barn I put up last summer. Wound up using Finger Lakes Construction http://www.fingerlakesconstruction.com/ I have had Fingerlakes build 2 Pole barns for me, and I trust them. Both times we were done ahead of schedule, good quality, and professional. Prices were pretty close between builders.

Plan ahead. I just cut out a 10x10 door and made it 10x14 for the new boat. I never dreamed I would need wider than 10'.

Good advice. I had 18' wide doors in the last building. Went with 14' wide doors this time, and I actually miss the extra space. Put in the widest you can. And a door on the back wall for a pull through, if you have the room, is great. Also lets in lots of fresh air. If you want to see fingerlakes work, you are welcome to look at mine.

Should be good with 12' wide doors but, might bump them to 14' or 16' still leaving me space for a man door, was thinking of a 8x8 door on the sidewall towards the back as my site won't allow for a drivethru. 4broke thanks for the offer, did they set the poles on 9' centers? My other 3 bids have them set on 8' centers with every other truss centered on the poles, thinking about my heavy snow load since I'm close to mexico. Do you heat in the winter? Great advice keep it coming!

Go with 14' interior ceiling height. You never know when you will succumb to a sport cruiser or an RV.
Also, what's the longest boat you are going to own? 60' feet is not long enough for a 37/38 foot boat AND a crewcab/long bed pickup on the same side without disconnecting and offsetting. You need minimum 70' for such.

I have 12' interior ceiling height on mine and wish I had gone higher. My fluorescent lights hang down lower, and I've bumped them when on the bow of the boat.
I could install an auto lift in my barn (and plan to someday soon), but 14' would be better.
14' allows you to yank an engine from just about any offshore boat (with a gantry).
14' gives you a lot more wall space for shelving and storage.

If you plan on having water in your building, a roll up door on the opposite end of the boat bay is nice. Even if you can't drive though because of your site, being able to back the boat to our out the end of the aft door allows you run/flush the boat while indoors.

My experience: http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/a...oy-box-up.html
When I built, I had to put $10K into site work. I wish I would have could have put that into the barn itself.

Trying to keep side wall height to 12 being its so close to house, dont really see myself going bigger than 30'cc when i get old!. Probably have too replace the lake cottage within a decade, so that would be the new boat budget, unless i hit the powerball. The site limits me to 50' length as it drops off to an old barn foundation= major fill, Hear ya about the site costs, mine is running about half, 5k

Don't forget floor drains. With a hill behind you, it makes it easy to run them to light. I don't heat during the winter. I am unsure of spacing, I will look tomorrow. Thats why I paid them to do it, I don't want to worry about codes and loads. They have an in house architect design the building and supply the needed drawings for the code enforcement office. FLC was great to deal with both times, very professional.
