By the looks of that run, if it had more power it could easily handle it, It was so well setup that it looked like it was on a pleasure cruise.

What's the value in it? Mike can break that record whenever he wants, he certainly has the boats to do it.

Yes, why would anyone want to set a "RECORD", or have a record?
Accomplishing things no one ever has, taking pride in doing so, and using it as a real marker of excellence to the point of putting YOUR OWN NAME on a boat company...using documented record setting excellence to make a go of selling many great boats... is so 1990's; well, also 1980's; and 1970's; and 1960's...xxx...and 1920's...and 1910's...xxx...just that NOW, it is passe', because WE are beyond all that "accomplishment" and "record" stuff.

Today, in reality, with all the (already proven) hull technology and all the computer controlled turbocharged HP you could desire, outdrives etc, anyone could do it with cubic dollars...and 2 more things, besides JUST cash.
"Back in the day", no hull had gone 171 mph average and 177 peak one way... unlimited power could not be gotten...until one man did it.
Apparently Reggie Fountain and team DID do something pretty amazingly special, as otherwise you'd expect incremental increases in MPH yearly as more HP and various refinements on what he'd done came about.
Besting a GREAT opponent or record, takes a GREAT accomplishment. Defeating a lowly opponent, one you make fun of or belittle...takes only a lowly accomplishment. Where is the honor in that?
Reggie Fountain is a great man in boating history, and a great opponent for others...he's been "King of the V-Bottom Mountain" for years.

Now, you can pretty much order up near unlimited horsepower and use a proven hull (that would take some doing to tell from a Fountain), and maybe anyone could break that record whenever they want.
Now, a few people poo-poo the IDEA of trying to break his record because it's just assumed to be so easy as to be not worth doing?
Maybe it's just cojones.

Somebody is sure documented to have them Yes, the other 2 things required, besides just Cash...
For a few others...well, talking is fun, too. Bench racing and day dreaming are great! We ALL do that! We are all equal on Talking!

I'm going to go watch the record V bottom video again.
That is something that actually HAPPENED, in REALITY, on the face of the Planet Earth, AFTER which there sure has been a lot of...Talk. Burn, Darth Vader, Burn

There's no benefit in anyone breaking the record. Mikes not going to sell any more or less boats if he broke the record! It all comes down to one thing, as you mentioned. Cash. In this case, in my opinion, the push just ain't worth the shove!

Bull ****!! That's what made Reggie Great!! F selling just boats, all these idiots think it's so easy to go that fast!! It just don't happen by upping the horsepower. All these people have no clue how hard it is. Mike probably knows, cause why u think he really hasn't tried it. OL is a great boat company, but for once stop being pussies and go at least try to get a record... Reggie would. Look how fast him and his son have that MTI running on just 1200s... It's all about set up, set up, & set up, just go ask a real racer. Like Reggie is and Mike will never come close to!!

What's the value of showing up to LOTO w/ a race boat to beat the current v-bottom record at the shootout? Doesn't the title of this thread state Outerlimits breaks LOTO v-bottom record, or am I reading in the wrong thread?

What a F---in ignorant comment......

150mph, IMHO, is an amazing run in a full cabin pleasure boat, just as 152 was in the race hull. Great day for everyone that took home a trophy. Whatever hp. pushed them. Period.

Regarding speed record holder - Fountain's boat was fast with the support of an entire corporation packing it, but I have to give the major accomplishment ( and a tip of hat for Cojones of the year) for the guy running a triple 300x pontoon boat at 114.

V-bottoms, like Cat go faster with hp - get everything balanced and voila - a record......pontoons have the stigma of being blown everywhere off course with a gentle puff of wind and are NOT supposed to pass everything but the big cats on the water. Like really, areo and hydrodynamicly - they resemble a dock not a cutting edge race boat.

I appologise for the dev.I am sure the OL owners and Outerlimits are thrilled with the results and they should be. They are beautiful boats and represented Mike and his company's product in grand fashion.......but there is always next year to improve on the mph or a new boat might just be possibly being built by someone who will top 150, 152 or even the mighty Reggie Fountain's kilo run..never know until the news is made. At the Shootout, like this thread - OL is the headline for their classes. Was great to watch happen!
