Default Need help with a zero effort contol with a Alpha outdrive

Does anybody have a zero effort throttle shift control with a alpha outdrive. I put one on my 242 Formula and I notice that after a while the shift lever is floating back towards the neutral position because the spring loaded guide assembly (part 22) is slowly pulling the cable back to its its middle position. Does anybody know how it should be hooked up? The boat has a 350 Mag MPI engine in it and I noticed that the MPI engine has the spring guide assembly vs the regular 260 HP engine does not. Any reason for that?

all mercruiser engines from , i ´m not sure 1992, have spring guide installed . they are made to asist when you are switching from gear to neutral
your problem is probably wrong adjusted cables

This is off topic but it sounds like you have a similar setup and I was curious what prop you were using and what rpm and mph??
Thanks justin

Only Alphas have the spring. I've installed maybe 2 zero efforts on Alphas and haven't experienced that problem. Maybe you can tighten up the tension. It has nothing to do with shift adjustment.

How do you tighten the tension. As far as I know the detents are spring loaded and there is no tension adjustment in the shifter.

you can tighten the tension in remote control , not at the engine , check cable adjustment

I have the spring assist and alphas and Eddie marine elite controls. Mine have an Allen head in the boot to tighten the detent. I did however read somewhere that the spring assembly can be removed with individual controls. Somehow it was designed to help with a combo control.
