A customer of mine was by the shop today that is DC Police. I joked with him about the incident and he said that apparently they're being very tight lipped about the whole thing. He said he knows just about as much as the public. He told me the guy driving the boat had just recently beat out 900 or so other applicants for the job, and that DC procedure says that no matter what, a vessel is never to be underway with only one person on board. He claims the video shows only the captain on board (I haven't looked that closely).

Man...I'd hate to see the other 899 if this is the fool they came up with.

I could be wrong Jason, but I'm pretty sure there is only one occifer in the boat.

He said the reason the guy was chosen is because he speaks fluent Spanish. No BS. I can't make this stuff up.

The other guy probably hit the deck and ducked for cover when the key was turned....

Man you guys are harsh! lol. Even the best boater has an off day. Haven't we all done something stupid either showing off, not paying attention or being distracted. Sucks for this guy that it was caught on tape and he's a cop but geez, give the guy a break. Not stopping immediately is his biggest offense in my book.

Not stopping immediately speaks to character IMO.

It is a perfect opportunity to jack insurance rates up on rib boats w/ twins operated by WP

If it was, they would've said the go-fast obstructed officer's ability to respond.

Perhaps it's time for a new kind of cop:
