40 Hustler/37 Outerlimits
What is the difference in these two boats? I've seen pictures of both and the hulls look to be about the same.
I've read the story about Mike Fiore and his dad working for Hustler, then Mike started OL and even his mom worked with him and then his dad left Hustler later and joined OL. But, what are the actual differences in the boats? Other than 3' of length... I need a little history lesson. Thanks! |
I think this question was posed here before...
Hustler was actually started by Paul Fiore and a partner, who went by the wayside very early on. Paul sold the company in the 90's, stayed on for a few years while Mike went on to start Outerlimits. Paul subsequently left to go work with Mike at Outerlimits. The 37 Outerlimits was built from a 32 Hustler. I've seen the plug, so I can tell you this with 99.99% confidence. I will grant you, however, that the boat has evolved light years beyond the 32, but the fact is, that's how it was born. I don't know where the 40 Fiore came from, so I would be guessing...but if I was a bettin' man, I would say it came form the 32 also, but... The hullsides of the 40 Hustler and the 37 Outerlimits are quite different where the 40 has quite a large ridge 3/4 of the way up the side and the 37 Outerlimits does not. just my measly .02 |
Get the quad stepped Outerlimits. Or the 388 Hustler. The 40 is a big ol dog unless you need to huge cabin.
|
Hey Ron, Have you heard the rumor that Outerlimits was not building the quad step anymore?? Somthing about killing the resale value of the existing non-quad step boats...dunno how true this one is...
The 40 is one bi ole dog...I just saw one repowered with triple 496s and new Bravos...I forget what it ran, but to be honest, i remember being impressed...I think somewhere in the low 80s. LACE is for sale with trip 540s and I was told it ran in the 90s before they detuned it... I'm not all that impressed with the 388...and I hope I'm not offending anyone, it's just that it took us alot of power(a pair of blown 622ci about 850hp ea) on #4 drives to go 112mph, and to be honest, I was frightened at that speed in that boat. It was wildly unstable to the point that it felt likt it would barrel roll running in a straightline...perhaps it go those characteristics from the 32;) ;) |
i have heard from afew people taht the old 32 hustler chine walks like a mother over 80 and up around 85-90 becomes really unsafe and damn near out of control.
|
Call Dave Patnaude at Typhoon Marine His got about 5 for sell there 732-477-6157
Puder that not true,By the way I heard that Hustler is going to build the 32 again |
Mike...it a trademark...i've seen it...:D :D
It's also quite common with the 26...I've see that too... It's amazing the things you see growing up next door to the factory:D :D I hear Rare Air is a a rarity though...runs pretty fast and somewhat stable...has the bottom been blue printed? What are the drive heights like? What direction are the props spinning? |

Now aint that a humdinger! The outerlimits is a streched 32 signature of the 70s. since i think it was used to create the 32 hustler. And the story behind signature was that tommy adams popped the 27 magnum? so is the outerlimits a streched 27 magnum/ 32 signature?
Here's a pic of the 32 signature. |

puder - I have to disagree with you my 32 with good power, boxes and bravos is VERY much stable at speed better than more expensive boats I've been on.
Sean have to agree somewhat on the 38 but not all the way - any stepped hull is shaky if you don't know what your doing especially in a turn BUT it is not a characteristic of the hull - i have a few people i know with them and love them. Been around the factory and am friends with people that work and have worked there over the years Then you OL - love the boat but have been told that they only will handle the right way with boxes on them . ?? who knows the 40 hustler is not a terd at all - as a matter of fact i think it rides and handles and get of the hole better than my friends 02 Top Gun. Mike the 32 is not coming back as they have destoyed the mold - and have heard it from the horses mouth. the 40 is also an extension of the 32 hustler and you can see it in th elines back to the cockpit. BOTTOM LINE - THAT'S WHY THEY MAKE VANILLA AND CHOCOLATE chris |

here is the 27 signature that tommy adams added 5 feet to, hence the 32 signature. Maybe these pictures show the magnum influence on the hull? Like i said earlier the 32 signature became the 32 hustler with some obvious deck differences.

here's another of the 27

just saying what i was told here when i was looking at a few 32 hustlers.
Perhaps the boxxes correct the chine walking. I was told i woudl experience this with a boat with TRS drives no commenst was made to a 32 with bravos. As i said this is just what i was told here. |

CB...Vanilla and Chocolate, excellent point:D :D The 388 I was on had #4s and as I said I was referring to straightline performance. When I was in the boat, it was being run by Jim McIntyre who owns Falcon Hi-Performance. For those of you who don't recognize the name, Jim raced both How Sweet It Is...Skaters for Carl Myers, MG-23--a 40 Skater(former Brooks boat) and Hot N Nasty for "the plumber"---Billy Mauff. Jim has loads of experience in anything with a big block and to say I was frightened could be just my inexperience, and Jim handled the boat well, it was just all over the place.
Just posting my observations, opinions may vary... ;) The 32 did come from the Signature, but I did not know that the Signature came from the 27 Magnum...but then again, didn't they all?:D ;) ;) Great pics by the way...I love seeing the old boats! |
sean-
good to see you on the board again, you must be excited about your new ride!!!! some great history going on here!!! i have a question...........the 38 signature tommy adams isnt a stretched 32 is it?? |

JK,
It's been a rough summer...buying a used boat is tough and the mechanical gremlins have got a hold on me. After spinning a bearing in the 454s, we put a pair of 540s in the boat and have had a myriad of problems resulting in another spun bearing...or two... Hopefully get the boat back this weekend and have some fun! Hope all is well with you. :) As far as the 38 Signature goes, I really don't know, but I would guess that if he streched the 27 to make the 32, then stretching the 32 to 38 wouldn't be a "stretch"---pardon the pun, I couldn't resist... |
bull, the 38 signature is not a streched 32. it has its own unique hull with something like a 17 degree deadrise.
|
See...ya learn something new every day!:D
|
sean-
real sorry to hear about the boat........they are all the same.......sometimes they run flawless, and sometimes they can be a headache.......its the luck of the draw......hang in there, i know you will straighten it out!!!!!!! 540s?? what type of horsepower are you looking at?? i ask about the signature hull because i know a company here in florida that bought the actual molds of the 38 tommy adams and builds a high performance center consoles with triple 250s......it just doesnt look like the 32 stretched.....heres a pic |
My 32 is fine at high speeds and does not have chine walk issues. Perhaps,.... could be an operator problem. In the mid '90's a number of magazines also did tests on 32 with 80 MPH+ power-also no mention, or negative comments, as far as 32 having a problem chine walking. CB is absolutely correct, as I too have heard directly from factory that the 32 molds were destroyed. My 32 is a far superior riding and handling boat than a number of stepped hulls I drove prior to purchasing my 32.

Does anyone know if Hustler Powerboats was successful in placing triple Hawk 1000HP racing engines in the Fiore 40? Please email me at [email protected] with any information.
Thank you. |
thats a old thread back:eek::drink:

I'm considering a 40 Hustler fiore and need help determing if it's the right boat for me. Can any one tell me how well these boats handle and what an average speed is with trip 650s might be? What is the cruising speed might be at what rpm as I am expecting the fuel consumption to be high with tripps. I currently own a 33 viper with twin 454's. This paticular unit has cobra engines and I'm not familiar with these. Are these good motors? Thanks in advance.

I have a 37 OL full stagger single step #6 boat and I FREAKING LOVE IT! It is the perfect boat for what we do with the boat and I can still use a dually to tow it. I looked at EVERYTHING and settled in on this boat. It was the only thing that had a cabin size that we were used too with good headroom. I am 6'2" tall and the bed in the nose is almost a queen. The one I bought did not have side x side seating which I didn't want either. The two seats together are great for the wife or GF, but not good if you want to go out with your buds. Mine runs pretty good too. I came in second at LOTO this year for top gun V bottom. I lost by 4mph to a 399V Skater. It also fits in nicely in my shop. I am not a sit down boat guy. The only other thing I would consider is a 42 legacy....but I don't think I have the budget to get one that will dependably run like my 37 does. I would not want to spend a ton of $ to go up in length and go backwards in acceleration and top speed. I only go to the ocean once a year so I don't need more boat. Dont get me wrong...mine is a wave crusher. With the #6's......the rougher it gets.....the more you can get on the gas. It will go as fast as I want to go in ANY boat in really snotty ocean water. The 37 OL is probably the largest 37' powerboat out there. It is a BIG 37' boat. It is also built like a freaking tank. The stringers and bulkheads in the bilge are unbelievable. Of course I am biased...but I have driven about everything else out there in the 37' to 42' V bottom class. My 2 Cents anyway....but I do actually own one. :) Get a #6 37 if it is in your budget so that you can really see what the true potential of the boat is.

Your boat looked fantastic and ran great. :) |
Thanks Sax! Your boat is packing some power to run like that for sure! I can't wait for next year! I didnt get to see your run......when will the video be out?

Myy 32 Hustler got the Sh!t kicked out of it going to block island and back. Fast boat for the power handles well but nothing good came out of the ruff water riding. Porposed like hell im assuming to due with the bravo set upt and the hulls were orginally rigged for trs so the weight was all thrown towards the back

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1Se8F8qeUg I wish we could've got some oboard video, but the camera operator had a senior moment :Drink: Anyways, sorry for the thread derailment... So Thunder, what speeds have you seen in more than a mile in your 37'? How is the handling at 120? Any prop tweaking or hull mods? I would assume you have the fastest 37' out there? |

Handling is awesome at 120+. I have done no hull mods to the boat. I finally got the props at least headed in the right direction. I was running to much rake in the beginning. I just have an old set of cast Merc 5 blade wheels. Nothing fancy....no CNC or Herring. The boat still has more speed in it to be dialed in. I don't want to comment on how fast I have been. But I think I can come closer to what the boat will do at the shootout next year now that I know how everything works. |
