One year Florida anniversary

It just dawned on me that today is our one year anniversary of us moving to Florida is today, we rented a house to get away from the Midwest cold February of 2012 and pretty much went back home to LOTO that Summer and sold the house, packed the house up and bought a house in Cape Coral and moved, never one day of movers remorse, it's paradise down here.

The only thing we miss is some of our long time friends and of course Family, but that's why planes were invented.

Crude Intentions 10-02-2013 04:50 PM

Congrats Jim. I've been in the cape 3 years now and I'm happy.

Glad to hear you like here. Hope to see you on the first FMO run next weekend

314joey 10-02-2013 08:57 PM

We feel blessed that we get to live here and love the location and FMO of course, it's funny to say the winter boating season is coming soon, boating in the Winter is so cool.

You guys that are waiting to make it down, it's worth the wait, hope you make it soon.

jrdonnellyjr 10-02-2013 09:11 PM

Be down in about three weeks. Bar and gas cards all polish up. LOL Hope we can get together when we get there.

Congrats. Hope to follow you down there one day in the not too distant future.

deepv29 10-03-2013 10:05 AM

Count me in! about 3 years to go. My southern California lungs won't know what to do with clean air! The plan is a canal home with 36-38 feet of fiberglass joy on a lift out back.

Congrats to all of you who had the courage to move!

I'm looking to get out of the Communist state of California at some point, looking at Florida as well. Just curious what made you pick the area you moved to over say the other coast or the Keys?

Biggest reason is cost. This is an inexpensive waterfront area

I haven't boated on that side yet. We always talk about it but never go. We've been boating in Miami and through out the Keys every year since 2005 and always say we should try the Gulf side and never go. We did hit Destin last year for the Cigarette rendezvous last year, that was cool, we had a good time.

Mike hit on one big reason, but there's several more for me., here's the stuff we wanted to have;

far enough South that it would stay warm all season (winter)

close to a descent size airport so we could fly home to St. Louis (Ft. Myers)

close to boating destinations and beaches, we can boat from Sarasota (North) to KW, about a 100 miles either way, doesn't get much better than that.

We love KW and it's cool, but it's to touristy for us and it's expensive to buy and live down there, that's pretty much it.

This is BY FAR the most informative site about the cape coral area that I have found!!

Dont forget to look at the Cape Coral or Fort Myers forums in City-Data.com

X 1000 Dan Starowicz is my real estate agent there in Cape Coral/Fort Myers. He's VERY knowledgeable and hard working! I bought two condos though him this past year in Fort Myers and I couldn't have asked for a better agent/person. I can't retire just yet, but when I do, I have a nice condo on the water in the Cape... Can't wait to join you guys in FMO!

314joey 10-03-2013 03:39 PM

There's a lot of members that either live or own houses/condos in Cape Coral/Ft, Myers or the surrounding areas (Sarasota-Marco Island) that would be glad to help anyone.

Tim, just come over the east coast and hang with Schulte, myself and about 500 other cool boater/members. You can checkout the west coast when they have the fun/poker runs.

314joey 10-03-2013 04:52 PM

Maybe for a week twice a year,, but if you want year round good boating come check out the Gulf Coast.

We have Family in that area, love it and tons to do for sure.

It just wasn't warm enough in jan-mar for us, when it's time, you'll Florida has lots to offer.

It must have been fun bring the boat down and giving the Gulf a whirl, if you guys ever want to come check out this area just give me a shout, you're welcome.

Glad you had a good time, see back at LOTO soon.

We had the Yukon all packed last evening and was heading to KY to pick up the Advantage then on to Cape Coral early Sunday to make the FMO season opener next weekend. Stopped at the bank a mile from our house to grab some cash and while just sitting there waiting to pull out to begin our trip south some idiot decides that he can run 50 mph in the turn lane in the heart of rush hour traffic just as some lady decides that she can cross four lanes of congestion. Mr. 50 MPH tags the woman then veers off like a cue ball straight into our left front tire and qtr panel.

Looks like we'll be heading your way next weekend instead. Now we'll both have something to remember this day by :)

Happy Anniversary Joey. I think you made a good choice.

BobbyB 10-04-2013 09:31 AM

Watch out he likes to pour beers on people.

I was serious, if you guys want to get the flavor I would suggest coming down and coming on one of the FMO runs with us, that will give you a great idea of what Florida boating is.
