18' gayliner with an old straight six merc 115 (cuz the force that came on it was a pos). I was 15 and there was no better feeling running that thing when you didn't have your drivers license yet, had a boaters license though! The boat self destructed from the 6" chop on our local lake and we put the 115 on our dads 28' pontoon.

Had a 24 Baja Outlaw for many years and recently moved to Donzi 35zr. Loved the Baja and had many great years in it. Donzi is definitely a different monster!

Mine was a gold metalflake Glastron/Carlson CV-16 just like in the James Bond, Live and Let Die film. Had a 302 Ford/Volvo drive. Had a lot of fun running around in the ocean off Gloucester MA many yrs back. Went from that to a Donzi 16, several18 2+3's and a new 22 Classic.
Most noteworthy boats were a 24 Banana w/twin blown smallblocks, several new Baja's, 210/220/280 24'Superboat w/twin turbo Gale Banks 482" 33 Fountain ICBM, 38 Top Gun - Presently got a 15' Orlando Clipper w/Mercury 50 17' Formula (Formula One) 22 Pachanga and my '02 Cigarette Mystique. Would like a 36 Nortech cat someday. -Love the "two face" one for sale w/700's !!!! |
16ft MFG with a 40 hp Johnson. I can remember trying to get it to throw a rooster tail but the adjustable pin for the trim stop wouldn't tilt the motor enough........so I cut a piece of 2 x 4 and stuck her in there! Was a ***** to get on plane but she threw a rooster tail up until the prop spun a hub. Ahh to be 14 again!

My dad had a run about/ski boat that my grandfather made (carreer coastguard) Iy had a brand spankin new in 1963 Volvo 100hp I/o, 1st generation . We used the hell out of it. I remember being so little that I would go waterskiing standing on my dads feet. When that old wood boat finally wore out my sister made the corner of the windshield into a frame with a pik of the boat in it for my dad. We cut the motor and drive out and I still have it complete in my garage. its a piece of history going back to the beginnings of the i/o world.
I took up boat building at a young age too. By the time I was in kindergarten I was helping my dad build a 41 x 24 foot Piver trimaran. I was wetting out glass by 8. Had the wonderfull experience as a little kid in the summer... went out in just shorts, nice summer day...found this big box I started playing in. Ny dad had just takin a full roll of glass out of it, Talk about the itchy scratchies... |
First boat; an oak door with a long stick in a creek. Then in 77, I bought a used 16' hustler ski boat, bolted on a new 115 HP Evinrude. Ridicules fast, ripped up the Rock River with the "Suicide machine". The good Ole' days.

I'm confused??
Your 16, but you have a cafe racer?? Sounds like you're doing just fine and if you continue on that pace you'll be in a 55MTI Mega Cat before you get married..... To answer your question though - my first performance boat was my cafe. Before that it was the Chesapeake bay saltwater staples - 13' whaler and Wellcraft V20!! |
8 foot Glas-Hopper. Clear bottom dingy. Then a 18 Lyman
