The Key West newspaper has an article about the races maybe leaving the Southern Most City.
Any reliable details or rumors regarding this grave and serious matter? |
Clearwater is going after the SBI worlds per a thread posted here recently
|

Indy almost died at one point, the track became a dump and luckily got bailed out. 2. We don't even know when Christ was born but choose an arbitrary date to celebrate. |
Yeah, because there is soooo much happening in Clearwater.
I wouldn't drive across the state to see it. |
We will still go to Key West the first week in November, no matter if there are Races or not.
|
What paper is it in I cant seem to find it? KW still has a few yrs in their contact so if there is any truth to it won't be for a few yrs.
|
I think most people are missing the point. If the races move to Clearwater it will get more exposure as it is #1 a more populated are and #2 easier and less expensive for most people to go to.
I love key west and am by no means talking bad about it but facts are facts. |
cwater has superior accomodations, two international airports for easy ingress/egress, larger population, and most importantly the better beach side view for the public to see the races. kw is too expensive for even a general weekend stay and remote for most. time to change things up.
|
Well how about Kitty Hawk to Roswell!!!
LOL!!

I like blue water..blue boats but by November 1st Too many "blue hairs " clogging up the roadways and eating and drinking establishments for those early bird speacials .Just screws up Happy Hour!! and as for beach venues nothing compares to Fort Zach beach or The Mole or the turn in the Harbor!! THAT UP CLOSE!! and as for the Christmas statement it was the event location not the date!! And would the Poker Run be run down Alligator Alley ???? someone call Stu and get the details on that! |
You know now that I have a beverage and think about..the world has really gone to sh*t since JR died and the APBA left town.
|
I'll be in Clearwater the week of Keys race any truth to the cancelation??????????

I'm with you
but I use to fly for 24(really his girlfriend then/wife now) and wouldn't mind him doing it again' Then Juniors pilot help train me in the Lear 60 after I got out of school and think Junior is due something big come his way and the Kenseth is a nice guy and his crew are friends of ours. But what would be really KOOL is if Kyle The M&M boy and that punk The Kaz would have a a headon!! If you can't tell by my opinions that I am a Tony Stewart diehard fan..wup ass and ask questions later! But 48 is probably the classiest one of all! wouldn't it be great if they would get in a boat the week before Homestead!!!

Hey Punk Ass is a jackoff or is that a jack-on!!!
|
KW will have some awesome racing in a few wks. Lets worry about the future in the future, right now it time to get to the big show in KW.
|
Figures, I finally get a boat I could do the Key West run with. In all honesty think the poker run is the main show, so hopefully not much will change.

Clearwater has been trying to get the Worlds for yrs. They are no closer then they were 2 yrs ago. Like I said KW has a multiple yr contact and Clearwater isnt even on the radar right now. This was talked about weeks ago on another thread. |

I have never been to the races in Key West but Have been to Key West many times. I Live in Clearwater and have been to the races there. While it is fun, Key West is more fun on an average day than Clearwater is at the races. The whole Tampa Bay Area has been stifled by the Fun Police. You can't wear a thong on the beach, and no I don't wear them the wife does. You can't Drink on the beach. And as of a few years ago you can't even take your dog with you to the Islands just offshore. One of the great things Tampa Bay Had was Gasparilla. The biggest drunk fest tittie flashing picture taking event of the year. That was until 4 years ago when Flashing or walking across the street with a beer would get you a ticket. I say let Clearwater have the races and all the fun people descend on Key West that week. More room for us that way.

Here's the story that ran on speedonthewater.com on Sept. 30, http://speedonthewater.com/in-the-ne...nts-the-worlds.
Todd Swofford of sportradio1600 picked up the story and interviewed me about the topic on Friday. The interview ran yesterday at noon and 7 p.m. East Coast time. It runs today at the same times. I haven't heard it but I will today. Did any of you happen to catch it? (Yeah right, with college football on all day.) There are two issues here: First, emotional reactions from casual and hardcore fans who love Key West—all understandable. Second, a potential business decision on the part of an offshore racing organization. I'm neutral on the subject. Certainly, if SBI withdraws and the Florida Powerboat Club's poker run continues with its typically giant boat count, there will still be an economic impact on Key West. No question. How would such a move effect the FPC run? I don't think anyone can answer that definitively. |
I hope this doesn't happen! We just opened our new Burgerfi restaurant on Duval hoping to make it a racers-Poker runners hangout.
|
Can't wait to try the food.

I bet the races go no where.
That's just John flying the I'm going to leave flag so he can get more concessions out of the town. It's BS. |
That hasnt worked well over the yrs, every yr the city wants to pay less. It will get to the point at sometime he wont be able to afford to put a race on in KW. You can afford to lose so much money putting on a race.

There is some history of conflict with this venue and SBI. As most of you will recall, SBI moved its worlds to New Orleans in 2001 when APBA Offshore took the Key West venue.
Completely neutral here, but a move would not be unprecedented—nor would a return to the venue after a change. News stories evolve until they reach their conclusion. This is one to watch. |

The difference is people go to New Orleans or Key West to party. People go to Clearwater to retire and wait to die. |
So if the race leaves will the PR continue?
|
not sure why the three major players, (oss, sbi apba) cant get past their differences (ego's) and put on a great race. bring them all and it will help with the money and at the same time put on one of the greatest event's known to man with more boats than you can count. there isn't a better venue than key west, period!
