I swear by old heave boats for Lake Erie, but if I was to get a newer boat, would be a TS Cig, or 41 Saber..... they are the best riding newer boats I been on in LE, Clifford was all business many great rides on it, didn't need steps on it.... ran good no matter what... and when it got big it was all business....

Not sure what out there now fill the bill,

Why an excel btw? Are they built better than average? Do they need the mods you suggested to be robust? I do like the way they look.

Where is this OP from? I was Great Lakes for years and moved to VA back in July. It gets just as snotty here in the Chesapeake Bay as it does on the Great Lakes. My guess is he is one of these small inland lake guys??

Central IL. Boat mostly on inland lakes and waterways, but also frequent the Florida west coast where my folks live. I'd like to able to go out on lake MI and the gulf in the winter in a sport boat eventually.

actually I like the deck and trim plus the hull was still from the same mold as the flat deck. The vents and windscreen went through some changes around 1990, I would like to find an 88 or 89 trs boat
