Has Anyone Here Owned or Know Any History on the Alpha SS drive?
Has Anyone Here Owned or Know Any History on the Alpha SS drive? Apparently its a pretty rare drive and Im trying to figure out what its worth, or if its worth keeping. I cant find much info online.

Had several of them over the years on our smaller boats. They are 2.75" shorter than a standard Alpha One. It's a short upper from Mercury Racing with a CLE lower that's fitted with a special vert shaft. A decent one typically sells for around 2k

someone should reproduce them. They always seem to be in demand.

What was the name of the company in WI that made a clone of an Alpha? Was it an Omega SS?

Thanks for the info, I didnt realize how rare they were. I just listed my boat. I figure if the boat doesnt sell, I might keep the SS drive and throw a regular Alpha on it in the spring before I relist. Hopefully it sells this week.

I have the same year and model 220 Sport with the 260 hp power. The SS drive had at least 3 mph on me. You do need to be a better boat driver with the SS drive over a standard Alpha IMO.

I have one on my Scout. They're definitely very rare but didn't know they were worth that much money!!! It's currently set at a 3" X-Dimension in my boat. Good drive!

They do tend to be a little "loose" at speed, meaning sharp turns
require tucking the drives a few clicks from full out, since there isn't much in the water when they are trimmed up. But hey loose is fast, right Harry? |
Awesome drive. I had a '88 Baja Sunsport 196 with an SS. It had 200+ hours on it with over 500HP. I had a shop go through it and they said it looked like new. I also did back to back tests with a standard Alpha within 1 1/2 hours and it was good for exactly 5 MPH on that boat.
