Merc 400 coming* :)
Hi,
This was posted on another forum:

I have checked a little and the engine is a 4 stroke 300 hp with 15 mids for the Xcats. However, it can be tuned to 400 hp. Thats interesting
Hopefully we see something in 2015 with a high performance lowerunit on too!

They were looking to build a low-profile 24 or 25 for under $100K with twin 200s with 15" shafts, but Pete Hledin shelved that idea when he learned that the 200 with high-perf lower units has no warranty.

"...4 stroke 300 hp with 15 mids for the Xcats. However, it can be tuned to 400 hp..."
does anyone know what "tuning" will consist of? software? hardware?
RaceBoat International noted: "the UAE reported that they were testing a Mercury 4 stroke outboard"
any pics yet if XCat is testing them?
very exciting times!

sorry to be a doubter but to date the engine that has been tested (no one is 100% here) has been the verado. the other engines that have been tested have been the evenrude and the honda's. xcat is phasing out the 2 stroke dirty engines but what clean engine is going to be choosen is still up in the air. who ever gives the best deal will be the ones that are chossen for the job. fastest engine is not the priority as everyone will be racing the same engine so they are all in the same basket together. verado mated to a 15" mid or ? is the question and will this solution be the best choice over a 300xs for a pleasure boater? why they dont run a 300xs is the better question as the 2.5 are dying and here has to be an alternative for the outboard guys.
