I was thinking today and realized the price of a new boat, at least one I was interested in, has doubled since '03. I looked at a boat at the Lauderdale show in '03, and was quoted $185K with 500 efi's. Now the same boat with 525's is $379K. Amazing.
Look at a twin step Top Gun.....2000-01 that was a 240K boat, in 2005-6 that was 440K and I would bet that is a 500K boat today. On the used market a 2000-2001 can be had for 100K +/-. Even sending that 2000-01 to Lipship for a full refresh (new motors, drives, paint, interior)and spending 150K (insanity but done to Phil's perfection) you would be into that boat for 1/2 of what a new 2014 Top Gun costs despite it being the same hull. 95% of the guys here on OSO couldn't tell the difference between a Lipship redone 2000 TG and a brand new one. So why buy a new one? Would the redone boat be any less of a boat? |
And liberals cry there has been no inflation since the 70s. I wish.

Technology, features, powerplants, materials, have all changed a lot in 10 years. Expense, labor, logistics, have all gone up in varying amounts as much as double or triple.
And someone still has to make some sliver of a profit; else no one would be in the boat business. 2004 Corvette Coupe Base price: ~$43K 2014 Corvette Z51 Base price: ~$72K And let's not even get started on the pricing on 2004 vs. 2014 diesel pickups. Base price on Chevy's website is 51,000 for a new 2014 Stingray so 8K increase in 10 years isn't terrible |
Thats what happens when they print money like its going out of style :mad:

Here you go. Friend of mine shared a similar meme on FB with a motorcycle shot from back in the day with a guy doing a wheelie. I adjusted the thought to fit my needs for my page. Click picture to see full size, right click and save.

My 2013 diesel cost $4000 more then My 2010 diesel EXACT same options even color.
I agree how its crazy boats have increased so much But wages stay the same..... |
My 04 F350 Diesel had every single option Ford offered in 04 and the window sticker was 46k. The 14 F350 with the same options is $57410. So thats roughly 10% increase in 10 years.
